the lobby is cool and thats it! No room service or restaurant at weekend..you feel in the middle of nowhere and the rooms have one little window looking on to peoples apartments who look into your room..its dark..and the carpet is black making it even darker...Really disappointed and will never go back... the rates are low..and once you visit you realize why !!!

Room Tip: Go to the Gramercy Park hotel or the Bowery hotel....

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are sorry that you did not enjoy your stay with us. If you did not get a chance to enjoy our continental breakfast in the morning or our Libertine Bar in the evening possibly you can return on a weekday when we offer our delicious restaurant and room service menu for breakfast, dinner and lunch. We would also be happy to assist you on your next stay so that your room will face an alternative direction instead of the City View room you apparently stayed in.
Thank you again for your feedback

“Stylish decor, luxurious, clean, unbeatable price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

My boyfriend and I both live in NYC and wanted to do a little "staycation" in the city. We found this hotel on a whim and booked it. We were SO pleasantly surprised. Leather tufted chairs, well-styled bookshelves, and beautiful objets adorned the very handsome lobby. A parquet staircase led to a gorgeous bar with a great ambiance. The room was immaculate and new - very comfortable bed and huge shower complete with Bigelow toiletries. We slept in, checked out an hour late and were not charged extra, the staff was super accommodating and friendly. All in all, a great value (probably the best value in NYC) for a stylish and modern hotel with great customer service.

Room Tip: Some of the higher floors have a nice view

“Good stay, but room for improvement”

I was very excited to stay at Gild Hall while in town for a job interview. The staff were friendly (especially the incredibly helpful doorman who walked several blocks to find me a cab) and I thought the room was huge for NYC, with very high ceilings that contributed to the spacious feeling. The bathroom was also very clean and modern, and loved the CO Bigelow toiletries. I especially appreciated the welcome plate of fruit and cookies from Thompson Hotels after a long train ride and late arrival.

However, the downsides: I could easily hear the music from the bar from my room on the 6th floor; there were only two small elevators and I (and another hotel guest) waited more than 5 minutes for an elevator in the morning; and I don't know why, but I found 3 spiders and a mosquito in my room! (And one spider was on the shower curtain!) I killed all of them and so didn't have any reason to tell the front desk about them, but you might want to check your room in case. Maybe the combination of an unseasonably cold night and an old building brought them out?

Room Tip: The higher the floor, the better. The DJ's music from the bar was very loud even on the 6th floo...

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I am glad that you enjoyed the room and service of our wonderful hotel. I am both surprised and regretful to hear about the mosquito in your room. I can assure you that this is the first report I have received of such an incident and I have addressed it with the appropriate individuals to make sure it will never reoccur. I have also spoken to my Food and Beverage team to make sure that the next time they have a special event, the music is kept at a more reasonable level.

Once again, I appreciate your feedback as it enables us to establish and maintain the standards Thompson Hotels are most known for.

“Great Experience Downtown”

Gild Hall is located in a fantastic area downtown. Very close to several subway stops, the Path Station, and a number of great bars and restaurants. The staff were very welcoming and helpful with information. The decor in the hotel is exactly as pictured. Our room was beautiful and clean. Very spacious bed and a perfect night sleep awaits. The room had very high ceilings and was very spacious for their standard room. Large bathroom and shower as well. We had some drinks at the bar before heading to Les Halles, one of their reccomended restaurants. The Happy Hour was fun and they have a nice selection of bar bites, and alcohol. I would certainly stay again.

“Downtown Gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

This hotel is for those who need to be close to a downtown office or meeting, but want to be in a block that is quiet, convenient, and near several subway lines. Gild Hall fits that description well. Room is very nice; bathroom nicely done, although with translucent glass door/walls, if you are traveling with someone, the slight lack in privacy might be an issue. Otherwise, very clean, very comfortable. Nice little business center on the 4th floor; I used one of 4 computers in there, and so no 'wi-fi' issue for me, as reported by others using their laptops.
Buffet breakfast is a little pricey, but a short distance away is a Starbucks (open at 7am), and a place called Earl's Court, which has Soupman brand soups, Billy's brand cupcakes, and a lot of other nice food/goodies.
Staff is excellent (particular Evan, one of the bell men - very helpful). I did not try the restaurant or bar, but looked nice.
