“Living in true New York style...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

My review is a little overdue but from the recent reviews I have read, things are still as grand as ever at the GV Habitue!

We stayed here for 7 nights in November 2010 (1st floor apartment). My mother wanted to stay in a Brownstone rather than a hotel so after much research we decided on the GV Habitue, what a great decision that was! The decor makes you feel like you are living New York style in another era. It was so nice to come back to our relaxing apartment after a hard day of pounding the NYC pavements.

Pros:
- Kevin and Matthew (Owners) are lovely and have endless knowledge on New York City
- spacious and clean apartment which was beautifully decorated with antique furniture
- we found a huge drawer full of sightseeing pamphlets and there is a huge collection of magazines and other reading material in the apartment
- great kitchenette with large fridge
- situated in a quiet, safe & very friendly part of the West Village
- short walk to Subway / supermarket / TV show 'Friends' building
- great British expat food store (Myers of Keswick) and Fish n Chip shop (A Salt and Battery) nearby
- close to restaurants / bars / shopping

Cons:
- none to report - GV Habitue is amazing!

Tips:

- buy a Juniors cheesecake from the supermarket to keep at the apartment, it is devine and a little slice each night just finishes the day nicely.

- Get Fish n Chips from 'A Salt and Battery' (112 Greenwich Avenue)

- get a slice of pizza from the very famous 'Joes Pizza' (7 Carmine Street)

- get up early and go for a leisurely stroll around the West Village...keep an eye out for celebs ( I saw Billy Bob Thornton) on my morning walk.

If you haven't figured out already, I absolutely love the GV Habitue and will stay here whenever I visit NYC. I have highly recommended this place to friends/family. You will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: We stayed in the first floor apartment and it had a lovely view of the owners garden.

“My New York Home!”

We stayed here once more for 8 nights in October. This time my sister and her husband, and my brother and his wife came for part of our stay. Matt and Kevin were excellent once more in accommodating us all. We stayed in an apartment in the front of the property and it was just as lovely as the room we'd previously stated. My sister was so impressed that Kevin had worked out who she was (he'd met my brother and his wife before) and greeted her by name. A small touch, but it made her feel special.

I couldn't think of staying anywhere else on a trip to NYC. I would feel lost if I had to stay anywhere else.

Roll on next year! Thanks again Matt and Kevin!

Room Tip: Great breakfast places around the corner. Numerous places!

“Great Spot - Location, Location, Location!”

GVHabitue is great value for money - It v expensive to stay in NYC and this place is the right balance of bang for your buck, convenience and comfort.

The location is perfect - right in the centre of the meatpacking district - walking distance (in high heels) to everything - Pastis, Spice Market, Collichio and Sons, Chelsea Market, all the right bars...All the great spots.

Matt and Kevin provide a huge amount of info about New York - usually including all the up to date TimeOut magazines which are very handy. Its also more spacious than you would get in your typical NYC hotel room.

I thoroughly recommend

“Love, Love, LOVE!!!”

This place is amazing! I stay here at least once a year when I come to New York. The Innkeepers, Matt and Kevin are delightful and accomidating. It's cheaper and a thousand times nicer than a hotel. You'll have a HOME base in a delightful, safe neighborhood.

“Home Away From Home”

Our two week stay at GVHabitue was perfect for us - the apartment was spacious, spotlessly clean, perfectly positioned in a quiet street and located in what was to become our favourite part of NYC. Kevin was most hospitable on our arrival and allowed us to treat the apartment as our own home during our stay. The conveniently located subway enabled us to travel with ease to all areas of Manhattan and beyond. Thank you to our hosts - we will return!!
