“Big Disappointment”

We stayed in this centrally located hotel in October 2011 for 4 nights. I am aware that finding good hotels in New York is difficult but when paying £250 (pounds not dollars) per night you expect something decent. The hotel itself wasn’t bad - just medicore. However if you want some sleep do not stay here. The rooms are not very well sound proofed at all and there is a bar downstairs playing loud music until 4am. We complained about the noise from the bar (located inside the hotel) only to be told that there was nothing they could do because they had no jurisdiction over the bar - this was at 3.30am. I could here the conversation the people in the rooms next door were having often word for word.

Even in the city that apparently never sleeps, the tourists that visit it do want to sleep at night. This is not the place to stay if you want peace and quiet. Despite complaining about the noise three times when we checked out no-one had offered to make any kind of reduction on the bill which would have been a reasonable gesture. The staff were apologetic but give the level of noise in the hotel I would not stay here again.

I'm so sorry to hear that you were kept awake during your stay. We are currently exploring options for sound proofing the speakers in the ballroom to minimize the bleed-through to rooms. If you are a light sleeper I would suggest requesting a room on a higher floor. We do our best to accommodate these requests. I'm not sure where the price of 250 pounds came from. Currently our Captain's Cabins are selling at a rate of $225/night plus tax. We take the comfort of our guests quite seriously, so I'm sorry if this did not come across to you. We hope you'll give us another shot in the future.

Until then please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. Thanks for writing.

“Adorable, affordable, and hip”

OK the rooms are really small but they tell you that up front, and where else can you stay for $99 in a trendy part of Manhattan? There is a French bistro on site. The Highline park is 2 blocks away. You don't need to bring a robe, slippers, hair dryer, shampoo, towels or soap. Great restaurants in the neighborhood.
The radiator pipes do make some loud noises during the night, but not all the time.

Room Tip: when you check in, if you will be sharing a bathroom, you might see which floors have fewer guests

Fantastic value in a very good area. Stayed in a 'captain's cabin, small but functional. Near the High Line and so within easy walking to mid town and beyond. Very nice staff. Near 'The Spotted Pig', an excellent restaurant and bar. Excellent breakfast.

Room Tip: 4th floor or above to escape the night club noise.

“A true NY delight!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

I made my first trip to the Big Apple in Oct 2011 and was looking for something cheap and not too out of the way, without being made to stay in backpacker style accomodation. After reading the reviews it seemed I had found my place - after all, who comes to NY to hang out in a hotel room?! The Jane was fantastic. I arrived late in the evening (10pm) and after 24 hours of travelling I just wanted to lay down! The concierge was very helpful, and while he was taking copies of my ID there was an issue with the copier, so instead of making me stand around he organised a porter to take me to my room, and then promptly sent my documents to my room once the process was completed. The rooms are small, but the under and above bed storage means that there isn't a drama with falling over your bags in the middle of the night! Cable TV, an ipod dock, air con, comfy bed and all for $99 a night, how can you go wrong? It is a short walk to the subway, and is located in a lovely area that is currently being updated from its industrial past. I slept comfortably every night and never had to line up for the bathroom or to take a shower, no matter what time of day/night it was.
The room keys are very cool, however they did raise some eyebrows at the 9/11 memorial, and it took some convincing that it wasn't a weapon!!!!
I will definently be back and will recommend it to all and sundry!

The place´s awsome, the staff always helpful and kind and the shared bathrooms were always clean and pleasant, just like my room.
I'll certainly be there in my next trip to NYC.
