“A delightful place to stay in NYC”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 May 2012

My friend and I stayed in apartment 4 in November 2011. Check in was as promised in the confirming email, with a courteous and welcoming greeting from Rob. The furnishing, decor and cleanliness of the apartment were all very satisfactory. We loved the period details and the sense of living in private home. We found both the bed and the sofa bed to be comfortable. The only improvement (and I don't see how this could be accommodated) would have been a washing machine/dryer in the apartment. However, there is an efficient laundry service conveniently close by. The location was excellent, with easy access to everything we wanted to visit by the convenient Line 1 subway from either 72nd St or 79th St. There were many attractions and great places to eat within easy walking distance. We greatly enjoyed our time in NY and our stay at 'Country Inn the City'.

“Stepping back in time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 May 2012

I loved staying at the County Inn the City during to NYC earlier this year. I stayed in the Clarence Suite. The pictures were true to life - the suite was gorgeous and I felt like I had stepped back in time and space. It was quiet, luxurious, clean, and very well-appointed. Every attention to detail was apparent. I am telling all my friends to stay and I hope to return very soon. (Couldn't be a more fab location either - just a couple blocks from the subway, right off of Broadway, safe and wonderful!).

If you come to stay in the city, especially for an extended period, you have got to stay here!

Room Tip: The Clarence Room is named after the architect...and it is sumptuous and romantic. I would have love...

“The perfect holiday home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 May 2012

It was the second time we had the pleasure of staying at the Country Inn the City and just like last time everything was simply perfect. The suite was elegant and pampering, even more beautiful in reality than in the much appealing photos (this time we stayed at the Clarence suite). The main room was spacious, the bed felt royal and was very comfortable, the kitchen had all you could ask for and the bathroom was clean and charming.

Fergus, the owner, was once again very friendly on the phone while handling the reservations (including going out of his way to overcome some technical problems with emailing us our confirmation), and Rob was there waiting for us on the day of our arrival with a big smile and a hearty welcome. Very much appreciated.

The neighbourhood does not get any better. The subway is two blocks away (3 minutes walk), you have all the food stores you could wish for, boutiques, shops and central park is a few minutes away as well. The 24/7 West End market is high-end but reasonably priced and you don't have to worry about finding a slice of a NY cheese cake at 02:00 am if you feel like it. It is just around the corner...

Once you put your suitcases down you realize that this is as close as you will get to feeling like a local. To us it truly felt like coming back home and we know we will be back again and again and again.

“NYC...See It Like A Native”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 May 2012

Commotion of the big NYC hotels. FORGETABOUTIT.
My wife and I stayed in this quaint Upper West Side get-a-way. No elevators, no front desk, no lines. Our apartment came with a fully equipped kitchen so we were able to start our days with a home made breakfast.

Our room was clean and airy with a fully equipped and functional kitchen. We loved the church bells ringing everyday at 5:45. Maybe that was an Easter Week thing.

We found ourselves taking the short walk to Central Park to see the first blossoms of Spring. The location is the best with all the food stores like Fairway and Whole Foods.

We felt safe and comfortable in this gem of a place.

We highly recommend this Inn

“Not what I expected but in its own way, perfect”

We stayed in a garden flat. Lovely to have the tiny little terrace, overlooking the back yards and feeling totally New York. Nice appartment and not small by NYC standards. Kitchen is basic but perfectly adequate. Coffee provided as well as a welcome brandy. Bathroom is fine - plumbing is eccentric but plentiful hot water after a few minutes wait (on the top floor).

Furnishings are very tasteful, bed and sofa bed very comfy. The greatest location - walking distance from great restaurants, the subway and a short taxi to the LIncoln center.

We'll be back - it's a bit more basic than we expected but actually has a lot of character and thought put into it. A home from home, nothing corporate or chain like about it and all the better for it. And, amazingly, it's soooooo quiet. Really really restful.

Room Tip: The Terrace is worth the steep climb to the top of the house
