Although they are trying to make improvements to this place with new bedding and paint , this place may very well be the most unwelcoming place I have ever stayed. The list of "do nots" goes on for an entire page. I was left wondering how you ever prove that it was not you who stained the matress. I can't imagine that this is representative of the Days Inn brand.

All other aspects about this site (location, breakfast, etc.) are adequate.

We booked this motel for a family trip to Carlsbad Caverns. After being disappointed with the Super 8 across the street two years ago, we were pleasantly surprised with the quality of this motel's lobby and rooms. The rooms were clean and beds comfortable, No sign of smoke smell in the non-smoking room.

Only negatives:
- Since the motel has outdoor corridors, getting to breakfast or the pool during the winter can be a chilling experience
- The heater hadn't been turned on before we arrived, so it took a while for the room to warm up
- The front desk attendant wasn't exactly Mr. hospitality. He checked us in fine, but just didn't have the mannerisms or appearance I've come to expect of a host.

All of the hotels in the area seem to be overpriced, so this was probably the best value we could find.

The premises has undergone some updating -- facade now goldenrod w/terra cotta accents. Room's wall color scheme current and there was "granite" vanity top. The room was clean and everything was in working order. The hair dryer, however, should be updated -- it was like a vacuum hose coming out of the wall and was very anemic. Be aware that this facility is used by truckers . . . must have been a dozen rigs lined up in the lot. These guys get up and going (noisy) early. Also, be forewarned there are Do Nots posted in the room (e.g., damage fee for alarm clock, $30; mattress stain, $50) and in the breakfast area (e.g., 'Do Not Remove Food from Breakfast Area', as well as Do Nots on the cooking appliances). All these warnings created a less than welcoming impression.

We had booked many months earlier, but when we arrived to check-in at 4 pm, we were told that our reservation had been cancelled and the motel was now full. The man on the front desk justified this by saying that he had tried to contact us but couldn't reach us on our mobile phone. As our credit card number given at time of booking had now changed that was evidently reason enough to cancel our reservation. As the city was full of oil people, it left us with very few options. Not a nice way to treat tourists.
