“Loved the Primrose”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

After reading all of the TA reviews on Highland Lake Inn, my wife and I booked a two-day stay for early January. We stayed in the Primrose "honeymoon" Suite, even though we have been married for 28 years. It was fun trying to act like newlyweds with the fireplace and huge bathtub. There are actually two bathtubs in the Primrose. Man it was cold outside but the heaters and fireplace inside took care of that. We felt so comfortable and cozy. For the longest time we did not even turn the TV on but spent time reading and relaxing. It was like having your own little cabin in the woods...but with most of the modern amenities you might expect. By all means get out of bed for the breakfast if you are able. This is southern gourmet with the cheese grits, cloth napkins and various chef selections. I loved it. Really nice and responsive staff and I plan to visit again on a future trip.

Room Tip: The Primrose is for romantics.

“Very Nice Place”

My wife and I stayed 2 nights. The property has several different types of accommodations. We stayed in the Woodward House. Our room was very large and comfortable, more like a suite, with a gas fireplace (which we used a lot since it was cold out) and a large whirlpool tub. There was a wet bar and a very nice decor--lots of natural wood. The off-season price was very reasonable and included an outstanding breakfast at their restaurant.

Room Tip: Check all their options on their website.

“Superb Experience at Highland Lake Inn, Flatrock, NC”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2011

My daughter and her fiancee selected Highland Lake Inn for their wedding ceremony, and what an excellent choice they made! The Inn's event planner was extremely capable, knowledgable, flexible, and a joy to work with. The Inn provided us a perfect location for our extended family (coming from all over the country) to gather for a few days, and offered very comfortable accommodations for guests ranging in age from 1 to 97. The Inn is nestled in a wooded setting, adjacent to a beautiful lake; we held the ceremony there on the shore beneath some great tall pines. I was enormously pleased by the fine cuisine offered by the Inn's (4 star) "Season's Restaurant" for the reception dinner and in the many other meals we enjoyed in the restaurant. The friendliness, helpful initiatives, and grace of the staff made all the arrangements come together easily, and left us all with a MOST favorable impression. My compliments! Several members of our family expressed their desire to return. What better recommendation could there be?

Room Tip: The cabins are roomy and cozy, but if a larger family wishes to be together, the "cottages"...

“What a hidden gem!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2011

We stumbled across Highland Lake this week after a long day of driving, only to find a hidden gem. I hesitated to write a review because it's quite a neat secret. The buildings are spread out on a beautiful sprawling property which leads down to a lake. Lots of trees & gardens yet wide open areas for play, gliders for enjoying the view. Reminiscent of "Dirty Dancing" location. We were a little concerned about quiet, as the Lodge rooms are large bedrooms (w private baths) which directly connect to the hallway, all with wood flooring, but although half of the rooms were booked we didn't hear any noise. Don't know how it would be if sold out at peak. This is a beautiful old wooden building, charming and clean. The food and service at Season's Restaurant was phenomenal - top end hotels could learn quality, presentation & service from here. Oh, and the incredible breakfast was included.

Room Tip: Upstairs if you're in the lodge; also, the balcony is a shared one with chairs and a pretty view...

“A Special Place for Motorcyclists”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2011

If you bikers are looking for a destination which offers most everything you need and more, this place is it, particularly if you're trailering your bike to ride off on day trips. The inn is only a couple of miles from I-26, providing easy access from both the north and the south. There's no steep hills to negotiate, as is common in North Carolina, and more than amply trailer parking in a number of lots for no hassle unloading and loading. It's a relatively easy ride to many area attractions like Chimney Rock and Lake Lure, Caesar's Head State Park, Dupont State Forest and the Blue Ridge Parkway, and it's easy to get to the local towns and cities, including Flat Rock, Hendersonville and Asheville. If the weather turns really sour, safely leave your bike in the trailer and drive. You can rent a cabin or, better yet, stay at the Lodge where there's a large common room with some kitchen facilities and a big TV for hanging out and partying. Plus, there's a game room downstairs with a pool table. The extensive grounds allow you to get some exercise before the day's ride and to cool off - in a outdoor pool or in the lake - after the ride's over. The ladies will also love the gardens and the animals. While there are many excellent restaurants in Flat Rock and Hendersonville, plan to spend at least one evening at Seasons, the gourmet restaurant at the inn. Perhaps best of all, from the standpoint of fueling up for a day of riding, Seasons also hosts one of the most outstanding breakfast buffets that you will find anywhere. It's included with your room. Any place can do quantity, but Season's breakfasts do quality, variety and healthful eating all together. No matter how tired you might be, don't miss it!

Room Tip: Rooms in the Lodge on the same floor as the common area are the most convenient.
