“Back to School”

This is a old 3 story school house located at the gateway to Capital Reef National Park in Torrey, Utah. This completely rebuilt 1916 school house has all the amenities of comfort and views of the surrounding country side. The school has a great history of pioneer Mormon settlers, Saturday night dances and photographs of a bygone life in this colossal corner of the world. Beautiful gardens, organic breakfasts, massage chairs in every room and a wonderful host. We have stayed there twice, will return many more times. Lots of windows to see the sunrise or sunset over the Colorado Plateau. If you want to explore one of the least over-run national parks in southern Utah, this is a great and central location. Near Boulder, Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument, slick-rock, alpine mountains, great fishing and blessed solitude. Some great restaurants nearby.

“Incredible -- Falling Asleep in School!”

Our family stayed in the Torrey Schoolhouse B&B Inn last week for three nights while visiting Capitol Reef National Park and surrounding area. This B&B Inn is a converted three story red rock schoolhouse. It was an extraordinary experience. We had this huge school to ourselves - the booking company accepted our reservation even though the B&B was going to be officially closed for the season. The Owner, Ty, accepted our reservation and stayed open. (By the way, she'll reopen April 1, 2012). We are very happy she did! We stayed in the Arthimetic Room - two bedrooms separated by a huge bathroom and vanity area. The bedrooms were large (after all it once was a classroom); the decor calming and peaceful. The Owner, Ty, made us feel very welcome and at home. The breakfasts were fantastic; even husband's non-gluten diet was catered to. The weather was quite wintery (snow, freezing cold) and every morning Ty would suggest places for us to visit or hike depending on the weather - they were all spot on. We found her to be a very warm, giving person. On Sunday, Janell was our breakfast hostess. She too is a wonderfully warm and giving person. We spent time comparing notes on the various hikes we've all done and could've stayed all day talking, but the weather necessitated our departure. We highly recommend the Torrey Schoolhouse B&B Inn to everyone.

“Outstanding B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 October 2011

A great deal of effort went into restoring the schoolhouse as a B&B. Just as much effort goes into making your stay quiet and comfortable. Ty went out of her way to make sure our needs were met. One of the best breakfasts we've ever had, reminded us of Christmas morning!

“This place will blow you away (even before you set foot in Capitol Reef)!”

Ok, so I want to get this out of the way before I start raving about just how awesome this little piece of history turned B&B is. I read some reviews by travelers saying that they were put off by the demeanor of Ty, the owner. I am so confused by these reviews, and SO relieved that I did not listen to them! Ty is lovely and warm, and totally available to help you, if you need her. You only need to look at the pictures of the B&B to know that this is her passion, and it is even more stunning in person. The amount of work that she has done to restore this historic schoolhouse that sat boarded up for 50 years is impressive to say the least. Seriously, even my husband was blown away, and he usually isn't interested in details like light fixtures, or wainscoting (he kept looking around and saying, I can't believe she did all this!). Plus, the breakfasts were delightful, delicious and organic, cooked and served family style by Ty herself along with the very sweet lady who helps her (so sorry I can't remember her name).
To top it off, Capitol Reef, one of the most gorgeous places I have seen, is only 15 minutes away.
Thank you, Ty, you do Torrey proud by the work you have done!

“Wonderful place to stay while in Torrey”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2011

We stayed for two nights during our National Parks tour of Utah. It was very quiet and Ty was a wonderful host. What a neat story of a converted old schoolhouse. I wish there had been a TV in the first floor room, I understand with it being ADA room that space is a premuim. I also wish breakfast would have been served a little earlier than 8:30. It gave us a little later start to the day then I would have hoped for. Breakfast was good and there was plenty of food for everyone! We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Don't choose the first floor room if you want a TV or your own massage chair. Due to ADA requir...
