“Good stay”

The room was clean, comfortable and spacious. It was quiet as well. Staff was friendly. The included breakfast in the morning was good.
The only awkward was at check-in. We booked a room to a regular rate months in advance. At time of check-in we asked if they offered a discount for AAA members. The lady at the front desk didn’t want to accept our international SYC+S club card although explicit written on the AAA page. This wouldn’t have been an issue to us if she at least had accepted our booked regular rate. But we had quite an argument until she then accept our reservation. Luckily in the end we could check-in to our regular reserved room.

“Better than average independent hotel”

Hotel staff are very friendly. Rooms were better than the average independent hotel. Breakfast was good. They have a number of sugar-free items for diabetics. Malted waffles were better than average. Indoor pool and hot tub were welcome after hard days of hiking.

Room Tip: The back side may be quieter but traffic is not bad.

“A nice surprise on the way!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2011

We stopped at dusk on the road to Bryce Canyon, and did not expect to find such a good hotel. The personnel is really welcoming and the rooms are just perfect. Relax in the pool, have a light breakfast, say goodbye to the horses around and you're on the way again, happy. Ask them about all you can do there, if you have time: there's a lot to explore in the area.

“Owner's help was amazing”

When the hotel where we usually stay in Torrey was full over the fall teacher's break holiday, we picked the Red Sands as an alternative. It turned out to be a good choice. After a tough but spectacular hike to Lower Muley Twist Canyon, we got back to town tired and looking for a cup of coffee. When we returned to our car after getting coffee, it wouldn't start. Fortunately, we were within a short walk of the Red Sands. After explaining our plight at the desk, Wade, the owner of the Red Sands, offered to try jump starting the car. That allowed me to move the car back to the Red Sands parking lot although it still wasn't running right. Wade offered to jump start the car again on Sunday morning so we could be on our way. He ended up jump starting the car three more times as it would start but only run for a short distance. To make a long story short, we ended up staying an additional day at the Red Sands until we could get the car towed and then repaired on Monday. Through it all, Wade and his family who operate the hotel were terrific. They made a difficult situation much less stressful.

“Very nice for a reasonable rate”

The Red Sands was a nice place with a cozy lobby and clean rooms. We felt welcome and comfortable there and woke up to the owner's 3 horses in the pasture out our window- so pretty! The breakfast was nice- there was a waffle maker and hard boiled eggs in addition to the normal continental offerings. The rooms were basic but came with awesome travel sized things- nice smelling shampoo/conditioner, little toothpastes, and a mini tube of lotion which i loved and used my whole trip. In all, I would go back on my next trip to Capitol Reef. The price is great and it is a good spot to rest your head.
