My wife and I stayed at the Blue Heron in August 2011. The room we chose was the more expensive of the two (Bay View) at $285 per night. Both my wife and I are experienced travelers and particular about where we stay. I consider the establishment’s “Trip Advisor” reviews and believability of web site claims in deciding where to stay. I also check the B&Bs location relative to the area’s attractions of interest to us.
My reviews are heavily weighted to evaluate the B&B against the claims they make on their web site (and omissions) vs. our personal experience.
I also believe some people just can’t be satisfied so I tend to minimize an isolated negative Trip Advisor review as well as those reviews that seem to be a bit too much on the flowery side…minimize, not totally discount.
The Blue Heron lived up to the expectation set in the promotional material and in general the reviews on Trip Advisor. The B&B is furnished in typical New England décor, immaculate, well appointed, the view from our room was exactly as depicted on their web site, and the proprietors (Nancy and Ken) were very welcoming, gracious and informative. The setting (residential neighborhood) and location were exactly as expected.
The breakfast, as expected and stated on their web site, was continental in nature and most satisfying. Our room and en suite bathroom was immaculate, spacious and well appointed. If you like watching TV in bed be aware although the TV is visible it’s on the smaller side so not all that easy to view. An updated flat screen TV would probably be a good idea.
We were well aware the Blue Heron is a B&B, not an Inn. Both bedrooms provide the same level of privacy, if not more, than a typical inn. Keep in mind this is a two bedroom B&B in a residence so if your preference is a moderate to high volume B&B to socialize with other guests or if you prefer and “Inn” environment you will probably be disappointed.
In short, we were satisfied with our stay, check out the area and read the reviews before you book a room here, or anywhere, for that matter.
