“Worth checking out”

My wife and I stayed at the Blue Heron in August 2011. The room we chose was the more expensive of the two (Bay View) at $285 per night. Both my wife and I are experienced travelers and particular about where we stay. I consider the establishment’s “Trip Advisor” reviews and believability of web site claims in deciding where to stay. I also check the B&Bs location relative to the area’s attractions of interest to us.

My reviews are heavily weighted to evaluate the B&B against the claims they make on their web site (and omissions) vs. our personal experience.

I also believe some people just can’t be satisfied so I tend to minimize an isolated negative Trip Advisor review as well as those reviews that seem to be a bit too much on the flowery side…minimize, not totally discount.

The Blue Heron lived up to the expectation set in the promotional material and in general the reviews on Trip Advisor. The B&B is furnished in typical New England décor, immaculate, well appointed, the view from our room was exactly as depicted on their web site, and the proprietors (Nancy and Ken) were very welcoming, gracious and informative. The setting (residential neighborhood) and location were exactly as expected.

The breakfast, as expected and stated on their web site, was continental in nature and most satisfying. Our room and en suite bathroom was immaculate, spacious and well appointed. If you like watching TV in bed be aware although the TV is visible it’s on the smaller side so not all that easy to view. An updated flat screen TV would probably be a good idea.

We were well aware the Blue Heron is a B&B, not an Inn. Both bedrooms provide the same level of privacy, if not more, than a typical inn. Keep in mind this is a two bedroom B&B in a residence so if your preference is a moderate to high volume B&B to socialize with other guests or if you prefer and “Inn” environment you will probably be disappointed.

In short, we were satisfied with our stay, check out the area and read the reviews before you book a room here, or anywhere, for that matter.

“The perfect Cape Cod experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 September 2011

We enjoyed this B&B for a week, having a beautiful, large and clean room on the second floor. Every morning we were pampered with a rich and delicious breakfast. The large deck at the back of the house faces the Wellfleet bay and is therefore perfect to repose and to enjoy the serene beauty of the natural surroundings. We were especially charmed by the hospitality of the owners, who are not only very warm hosts, but also enthusiastic and well grounded ambassadors of the Cape Cod region. On our next trip to the bay, we certainly will be back!

“Best B&B in Cape Cod!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 August 2011

When another B&B in Wellfleet couldn't accomadate us, they recommended The Blue Heron. After viewing their web site and seeing how beautiful the rooms are we emailed them with our vacation plans. Ken promptly responded and answered all our questions. His wife Nancy warmly greated us upon our arrival and showed us to our room - a large, very clean bedroom and bathroom overlooking a stunning salt marsh. The marsh backs up to an Audubon Park and every morning hummingbirds, blue jays, cardinals, orieles and wood peckers would come to eat at the feeders placed around the deck. We so enjoyed watching them as we ate our breakfasts and quickly went into relaxing vacation mode. Nancy & Ken are very friendly, and we enjoyed many pleasent conversations with them. We found their advice on beaches, restaurants and nature trails very valuable. The B&B is filled with many beautiful antiques and oriental carpets and we enjoyed our time spent inside it as much as the time spent outdoors. Our bed was extremely comfortable, and every night we were lulled to sleep listening to the sounds of nature outside our room. We are so looking forward to going back to Wellfleet and would definately return to The Blue Heron!

“Cape Cod's biggest ripoff”

We were greeted at this establishment not only by our hosts but by an unpleasant stench that permeated both the first and second floors. Our $275 a night room did not have an ensuite bathroom nor a tv that was viewable from any location in the room, but it did have a smell that could not be eradicated by opening the windows. When we asked if we (the only guests...that should be a clue) could move to another room with an ensuite bathroom, we were told that we could...for more money. And speaking of money, our breakfast consisted of cold coffee, an English muffin, a cranberry muffin, sliced fruit, and orange juice. A rough calculation indictes the innkeepers netted about $274 on us. On, and did I mention the location...in the middle of a subdivision of new houses and miles from anywhere you might want to go.

Our B & B overlooks a tidal marsh as stated on our website. Our guests happened to arrive at an extremely low tide. The low tide smell lasts for no more than an hour depending on the weather conditions. We can not control nature.

The website honestly explains that the Audubon room has a bathroom just outside the door which is part of the reason that it is priced lower. When this couple booked the Audubon room they knew it did not have and ensuite bathroom. They also knew that the Bayview room did have an ensuite bathroom and was slightly higher priced. They chose the the less expensive room. (We only have 2 guestrooms.) The TV is viewable from the ENTIRE bedroom!

Our coffee is ALWAYS HOT! It is served in an insulated carafe! Our continental plus breakfast consists of orange juice or V8, yogurt, Granola, Raising Bran, Special K, a fresh fruit platter, English muffins, & something deliciously hot from our oven! All of this is stated on our website.

Wellfleet is only 8 miles long and 2 miles wide so you are not far from anywhere you want to go in Wellfleet.

This couple wanted the better room with the better view but were not willing to pay for the upgrade! Please note that this couple booked for 2 nights. They left after only 1 night with an excuse. We GRACIOUSLY did not charge them for the 2nd night even though our website clearly states, "There will be no refunds for an early departure."

Our website is totally factual and an honest depiction of our home and guestrooms .

“A Wonderful Place to Stay”

My daughter, age 13 and I stayed two nights at The Blue Heron B&B. Having just stayed in B&Bs in Boston and Marthas Vineyard earlier in the week, I can tell you that the accommodations at the Blue Heron were head and shoulders above the rest. We felt like we were staying in a luxury suite, that was impeccably decorated both comfortable and charming. Our Hosts, Nancy and Ken, we just great, serving up a wonderful breakfast in the morning, giving us the get up and go to get out and explore. Wellfleet is a great little town, with a beautiful beach and a great location to travel out to Provincetown or into Chatham. We had a terrific meal down by the Wellfleet harbor and enjoyed the sunset over cape cod bay.

The Blue Heron has a fantastic deck with views out over the salt marsh all the way to the Bay. It sits adjacent to the Audabon Santuary and we were amazed at all of the species of birds that we could view from the deck. Our hosts keep their birdfeeders well supplied and we were delighted to see the hummingbirds, baltimore orioles, and many others come and perch for a while.

If you are looking for a relaxing, warm comfortable place to stay, in a great little town, with hosts that will make you feel right at home, then the Blue Heron Cove B&B is my recommendation.
