I booked two rooms at the Inn for Labor Day weekend. Both rooms were clean and sparsely but adequately decorated. We all enjoyed the historical feel and location, which was a short drive to town and to the harbor. (Walking was dangerous; there are discontinuous sidewalks and the traffic moves fast.) The grounds and buildings clearly needed some upkeep. Even simple things like trimming back dead flowers were unattended. You could also hear Route 6 traffic pretty clearly. Breakfast was simple but fine.
The innkeeper was not helpful about Wellfleet's important but complicated beach sticker rules. What she told us was wrong. By Labor Day weekend, an innkeeper should know those rules inside and out. She had also "run out" of the forms (so get some more?). The innkeeper was also borderline rude about our malfunctioning toilet, first saying that its been happening all summer (so fix it?) and then suggesting to my husband that he wasn't flushing correctly.
Overall, Wellfleet lodging seems limited and competition isn't a driving force. I wouldn't particularly recommend this Inn, but I don't know if there are better alternatives.
