“They created a perfect wedding weekend, Fred and Patty were wonderful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

This review is long overdue, we are still winding down from all the wedding prep, etc. But I write this review on behalf of my husband and I to let everyone, including the owners and their son, know how wonderful they were to work with prior to our wedding and during the wedding weekend itself. Our wedding was in September and we had booked the Holden Inn for Thursday-Sunday, an entire weekend event. From the beginning, Fred and Patty were more than helpful in the wedding preparations and answering any questions we had from the get go. As my husband and I live in Colorado, we often would send Fred a laundry list of questions or speak with him over the phone for close to an hour and he was always more than willing to answer our questions, make recommedations or help us plan out the weekend. When the time finally arrived, Hurricane Irene had recently passed through and I learned from Fred that much of the grounds shrubbery and rose bushes were taken out. To my incredilbe surprise, the day before everyone started to arrive, Fred's son bought fresh, new rose bushes to adorn the property so that there was still live roses to be enjoyed during the weekend. I was so impressed that they had taken the time and care to do this. It wasn't something I would have thought of or even mentioned. Yet this kind and thoughtful gesture went along way in our book and truly shows the care they demonstrate for their guests. Fred and Patty were extremely accomodating to us all during our weekend. They were attentive, caring and were never far from any of us, if we needed anything. I understand that taking on close to 100 guests for three days can be exhausting, but Fred and Patty opened up their property to us and helped to make everyone feel welcome. I would highly recommend this venue to any seeking out a unique, beautiful and quaint venue to host their wedding. The owners and their son were a pleasure to work with from start to finish. I cannot thank them enough!!! The Holden Inn was the perfect place to have our wedding!!! Thank you Fred and Patty for making our perfect wedding a reality!!!

“Cape Cod charm”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2011

The Holden Inn represents the old-world charm that Cape Cod offers. Let me be honest: this is not a four-star hotel. It is not meant to be. If you are expecting luxury, stay somewhere else. If you are expecting simple, endearing and picturesque accommodations, then this is the place for you. The Youngs are a great family - they remember us every year and welcome us openly. They maintain the inn to be a true "inn," with traditional decorating and fixtures. The location is central to both the harbour and Main St. in the centre of town. I highly recommend the Holden Inn to those looking for an authentic Cape Cod experience, one which mirrors Wellfleet's sense of escape from technology and the craziness of life.

“Really, trust the reviews and stay elsewhere”

My wife and I secured a room with a private bathroom for three nights. We are fairly low maintenance people and figured that the reviews we read could be excused. The grounds themselves are well maintained, and the location is good. Outside of these two positives, there is absolutely nothing acceptable about The Holden Inn. We were there during the "shoulder" season, and our room was colder than the temps outside. There were no efforts to correct the temperature, despite evening temperatures in the 40s. The bed was unbearably hard, creaky (as in, wakes you when you move) and lumpy. The sheets felt unclean: beyond too old, a strange bird print that contrasted the super dated floral print of the comforter (and yellowing, floral print of the very exposed mattress). We could hear absolutely everything in adjoining rooms, the room door was about three inches above the ground. The bathroom was underlit, poorly constructed, and felt dirty. We were uncomfortable even taking a shower, as it felt haggard. Overall, the linens and towels are dated, worn, and mismatched.
Most of the issues we had we would ordinarily let go--dark, creepy, poorly designed, poorly maintained, even temperature--but we ended up leaving a day early because we had such an unbearable night's sleep our second night on the inordinately hard, uneven bed (springs in back kind of thing). There was no one to discuss this with at 9:30am the next morning, as there is seemingly no consistent management presence. The price is low, and we opted to swallow the cost of the third night just to be out of there.
We understand that the Inn is advertised as basic, but there were no discernable efforts to make it even bearable. We are regular visitors to the area, and will never return (or allow any of our friends or family to do so).

“Believe the reviews!”

I should have trusted Trip Advisor. All the reviews of Holden Inn that described it as horrible - were accurate. The owners should retire and sell the place! It's time for them to give it up! It's just not comfortable. I'm pretty sure the towels and linens were bought 10 years ago at Big Lots or something. There is nothing of quality at this place. I needed an iron, but they didn't have one. The place smells like mildew and it's just an old place with no character or charm. In my opinion, they need to sell this place to someone who would provide quality service.

“Wonderful weekend in Wellfleet”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2011 via mobile

We just returned from a wonderful weekend in Wellfleet celebrating our family reunion. We had a terrific suite with a sitting room, 2 bedrooms & bath. The room sizes were spacious and very authentic to the area. We could walk to many places, the location was great. The owner was very pleasant & had great suggestions. Thank you for making our stay a wonderful memory to add to our reunion.
