“Hyatt House; Good Stay!”

Great service at this hotel. Check-in was smooth, the amenities were clear and we even had some help from housekeeping as they lent us some cleaning supplies to clean up our rental car after one of my family got sick. The room, booked through Hotwire, was not a suite, but very nice and spacious. The hotel appeared very clean and the staff extremely welcoming and caring. The free breakfast was good. Different hot items everyday accompany the usual cereals, breads, fruits, yogurts, and juices. Because the hotel had recently changed names, some things still called it the Summerfield Suites, but others the Hyatt House. They are continuing to change over to the new name.

The only con I can think of would be our wake up call on our first morning came one hour early. The phone system had not been working right. We called the front desk, they said they would work on it and we could call them for a wake up call the next day instead of the automated system and they would be happy to give a call to the room. We did so, and had no problems our second and final morning.

My family would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the San Diego area that doesn't mind being about 15-20 minutes outside of town. We had no problem driving to town for our whale watching tour and the zoo.

Room Tip: If you want a full kitchen, ask for the suite. If you book through 3rd party such as Hotwire or Pric...

“Nice Vacation Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2011

My family stayed at the Hyatt Summerfield Suites San Diego / Sorrento Mesa for a week in August 2011. The hotel was good and functional. Previously the Woodfin Suites, the hotel was slightly dated, but clean.

The room was quite spacious with full kitchen, living room with sofabed, and a king bed in a separate room. The room could use a bit of refresh, as the carpets were probably the most dated.

Breakfast was very good, as the menu changed "slightly" every day. Food was freshly made in the kitchen. The omelet station was by far the best, as it was always made to order. I was not able to make it back to the hotel in the afternoon to participate in the afternoon food festivities.

In terms of location, I purposely picked an area north of San Diego, so that we could drive to areas both south and north of the hotel. It's about half way between San Diego proper and Carlsbad. The hotel is tucked in the middle of a high tech industrial park - the majority of the hotel's clientele would be young high tech professionals.

The pool is not heated and is outdoors. The pool is located in the center atrium, so it's out of the sun for a good part of the day. I was expecting that in August, the pool temp was decent. However, my kids started to shiver within a short amount of time.

Hotel service was also very good.

Would certainly stay there again.

“Comfortable Stay at Hyatt Summerfield Suites”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2011

Check-in process: Fast and easy. Fumi was the staff who checked us in and she was nice. She provided a business card in case we needed anything.

Room: Spacious, condo-type living. There was a living room area with a flat screen tv and then another flat screen tv in the master bedroom. Spacious washroom. The hotel was quiet and sleep quality was excellent.

Air-conditioning: Quiet and functioning

Breakfast: Hot breakfast with a varied menu every day. There was a calendar in our room complete with a list of breakfast items to be served for each day. The breakfast was at the hotel restaurant. On the first day, we had scrambled eggs and sausages. On the second day, there was bacon, mixed ham and egg, sausages and pancakes. There was an attendant who looked after the tables. There was also hot oatmeal in a pot and brown sugar and nuts available. There were freshly cut fruits as well. I really loved the pancakes.

Internet: Wired and wireless internet that was free for guests. Decent speed.

Parking: Free for guests

Elevator: Our room was on the fourth floor. We had to swipe our room key in the elevator in order to gain access to that floor.

Other: We tried out their gym facility. It basically had one bike and one elliptical only. There was one yoga ball. There was also a tv in the gym. It was a below average hotel gym.

Overall: A lovely hotel stay overall in the San Diego area. I would stay here again.

“Now the Summerfield Suites, GREAT HOTEL!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2011

There was a bit of a hiccup at the start (through priceline you don't get an actual suite), but was able to upgrade to the suite for very little extra. Their breakfast is spectacular for a freebie (personalized omelet, yummy!), the rooms were spacious enough for us and our 2 little kids. Pool was only okay, but overall I was very impressed with what we got for the price! The location was great except if you want to go somewhere during the week at rush hour. It's in more of a business center, so getting onto the freeway at 5pm is a nightmare.

“Mislead with information from Hyatt Sutterfield”

I reserved a 1 room suite and when I arrived, I was told by manager that guest who stayed night before wanted another night when hotel was sold out and California law forbids them from removing someone from room. Relative is GM of a hotel told me that not law, that I was bumped because I was on travel agent discount rate and they were paying full rate stay for holiday weekend. I was bumped a handicap room and WAS NOT comped for it, instead half off room rate and points. I drove 500 miles and had guests who had to have their kids sleep on floor with no pillows!!! Also, kids running up and down halls and when I spoke to someone about it, I was told that security was there to handle it but I never saw security during my stay. Sunday breakfast room was understaffed. I saw manager( yes the same manager) working the floors along with maintenance personal. Coffee, plates and silverware were constantly being waited on. As an independent travel agent as well as a regular visitor to San Diego to see family, I couldn't possibly recumbent this hotel to family or clients. 1st impression is a bad one.
