“nice but small rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

We booked this hotel to stay in a different area in San diego. We usually stay closer to the airport or near the fashion valley mall however this time we wanted to stay in an area we haven't been before. The hotel had a discount which also made us choose it from other options we had, closer to downtown. We were kind of lost at first. It is kind of hidden. Mission Bay Drive is really everywhere so be attentive with directions because you can get lost easily.
when we arrived we were 7 people waiting on line and only one person in the front desk. after 8 minutes someone else came to help as the line was getting longer.
The hotel is really nice and modern but the room itself was really small and had no view at all. It made me feel like I was in a regular motel close to the airport so I did not think there was a point of choosing a nice hotel in a beautiful area where there is no view at all.
When we entered the room, my daughter found a dirty sock between the 2 beds so I must say they do not clean very well, even though the room seemed very clean and nice. I would not stay in this hotel again because of the location and the price i believe is a bit high for what you get. I was going to stay for 4 nights but decided to move to a closer hotel with a bigger room.

Room Tip: maybe ask for the biggest room they have as the one i had was too small, maybe also with a view.

“Refreshing Planet Away from Home”

Our check-in at the Dana Hotel went smoothly, via a friendly & helpful clerk. Be warned there may be overnight parking fees to contend with, ours were waived apparently after we checked our bill. The room was hard to find due to the way the buildings are marked but we were pleasantly delighted to find our room was on the top of a 3-floor building and our bedroom/balcony had a fantastic view of the Mission Bay just yards away. The entire wall is windowed, with movable shutter doors to block light or open to the panorama. Teak furnishings, large bath, and comfy bed, clean & tidy, sofa bed with coffee table as well as a small eating table & 2 chairs. Very small food prep area with only a sink, cabinets, small microwave, and dorm size frig (no freezer) but there are 2 restaurants on site. This was a hotel room, not a condo, but the kingsize bed & furnishings were well placed and roomy. Ice machine down the walkway outside room, elevator is handy for unloading car. We took our bikes and they were welcome, as you can bike everywhere, along the bays, parks, marinas, and only 1/2 mile to Mission Beach & the boardwalk strand there. Fish the bay, or charter a boat, there is lots of activity on the bay waters (gulls, pelicans, coots, ducks, etc) or take the short hop to Mission Beach and walk along the shore, we spotted dolphins out jumping beyond where the surfers were waiting for the next ride in. The Sea World exit is only a 1/2 mile in the other direction. After a busy day, you can come back to the Dana and have a swim in the heated pool overlooking the bay/marina area. Heaven.... What a wonderful 3 day trip from our desert dwelling to light, surf, water, wind, and sealife!

Room Tip: Ask for the 1000 series buildings if you want the best view of the bay (we were in 1309)

My wife and I try to go to San Diego once a year. When we do go we have to stay at The Dana. They have a very friendly staff and you can't beat the views of Mission Bay. We look forward to next time!

Our son and his family took us to San Diego for a long weekend as a Christmas gift. The Dana was the right place for us to stay. The rooms were clean, the room service was wonderful. Quiet and beautiful view. We would go back in a heartbeat. Thank you Dana

“Welcomes Univ of San Diego parents and visitors”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

I am a return guest, the parent of USD students. Thanks to the generosity of the Dana's owner, a USD alum, when you visit there is a USD rate and special extras. Be sure to check it out.

But that is not the reason I return, the hotel is situated along the bay, with pretty grounds, two great pools, clean, well appointed rooms and the very very best staff I have experienced in my travels. A shout out to Anna at the Firefly, whose "good morning!" sets the tone of your day. Samantha at the front desk is also a big help, and the wait staff, front desk, reservations, are always helpful and friendly.

You will see me again!
