When we booked this, we were looking for a reasonably priced hotel convenient to downtown but not in the heart of it. We were very pleased with the hotel and location, which was next to the freeway but unaffected by freeway noise. We made several trips to the downtown area and other surrounding neighborhoods and everything was within 10-15 minutes of the location.

Our original room (studio queen) was on the ground level and the people above us must have had children because as soon as they arrived, the noise was annoying enough to require a room change (my husband is a light sleeper). The front desk staff was very accommodating and moved us to a larger 2-bedroom unit (upstairs) at no additional charge. What a fantastic setup if you need to sleep four or more in your room. We found both rooms to be well-equipped, clean and comfortable. The breakfast buffet in the morning was very good and definitely better than most and had a good variety of hot and cold foods. This was a very good value and we will definitely stay at this Residence Inn again when we return to San Diego.

We stayed here back in Sept. 2011 during the power outage. We stayed for 7 nights and couldn't have been happier. Despite being without power for about 12 hours, the experience was great. The staff went out of their way to make sure everyone was as comfortable as possible. People were given light sticks in an attempt to provide some light. They staff even opened the keg to allow people to make the best of the situation.

We found the room, the location and the staff to be top notch. The rooms were a bit dated but they were exceptionally clean. The pool is on the small side but certainly clean and well kept.

The breakfast was good and plentiful as were the evening receptions during the week. The light meals during the week included an entree, lasagna one night, soup and salad another night and hamburger and hot dogs another night as well as rolls, beer and wine. The staff does a great job handling the crowds and replenishing the food.

If you are looking for a nice, friendly place to stay, this hotel is worth a stay. We will definitely stay here again. We were very happy with everything!

My husband and I spent 2 nights here right before the New Year. We didn't want to stay in downtown because we didn't want to pay all the parking fees at the hotels. Residence Inn San Diego is so convenient to all the attractions. It's located right by the freeway but you don't hear any freeway noise. It's only 10 minutes on the freeway to downtown.

The layout of the property is a long rectangle, with the front desk/breakfast area in the very front. Our room was in the middle, so it wasn't too far. I wouldn't want a room all the way in the back.
The cabinets, drawers, and closets are a bit dated, but we didn't care.There's a full kitchen (also a bit dated) in the room, but we didn't really use it. It's really convenient if you stay here longer or if you have family. They give you free popcorn in your room so we enjoyed fresh popcorn in the evenings. The room rate also includes breakfast. The selection is decent and there are plenty of tables. The lobby area provides coffee and hot water for tea and hot chocolate. A very nice touch.

Overall, we had a pleasant stay here. We would recommend it to our friends and family if they make a trip to San Diego.

Booked this hotel with our Marriot points as we wanted a weekend trip to San Diego. The hotel is set up like an apartment complex just off the freeway. Our stay was very pleasant and rooms well maintained. They are a bit dated, but all the essentials were there and we had plenty of room for two adults and two children. They have free parking and free WiFi, and their breakfast is very well done. Rather than just pastries, you get eggs, sausage, pancakes, and other items. We were very impressed with the value this hotel provides. When my young daughter went to get a blueberry muffin, she began to cry when one of the Residence Inn employees working the breakfast area told her they were out. Within minutes, this lady came to our table with a special chocolate muffin for both my kids. I thought that was so sweet that she went back to the kitchen to find something to appease my daughter. We have stayed at several Residence Inn's over the years and I was very pleased with our stay at this one as well.
