The hotel is older, and has been remodeled, but that being said, the place is a fantastic bargain. The rooms are clean, with a spotless frig, microwave, and coffeemaker. Breakfast is plain, but with a waffle maker, lots of fruit, and it's free. The hot tub and the pool are clean, and the pool, in January, is perfectly heated. It's quiet. Wifi worked well, and it is free. Lots of towels, comfortable bed, location near (very touristy) Old Town. From other reviews, I was worried about the basement parking. Yes, it's tight. You may have to discharge your passengers before parking (there are big columns in the way) but if you are courteous and park between the marked spaces, it's not a problem, even with a Suburban. Staff couldn't be nicer. Only complaint: No one to help with bags...but they provide a cart. Great discovery: Super efficient taxi service...619 444-4444. They arrive immediately and their computer calls your cell to tell you they are there. The suite is fabulous--there's a work area in a living room with a sofa bed with the bathroom in between, and a second television. If you require Ritz Carlton glitzy, this may not be for you. We thought it was wonderful.

Just completed our second stay at LQ Old Town and had a great time again. For the price this is an ideal choice for a vacation hotel. Location is great, staff friendly and helpful, nice pool, clean rooms. Complimentary airport shuttle a plus. Breakfast is fine - my wife and daughters enjoyed the waffles.

Our first night was New Years Eve and the hotel was fully booked. As others have remarked, if the hotel is full, parking is a bit cramped but since we returned our rental car on 1st Jan it wasn't an issue for the rest of our stay. I did notice however that the car park was not particularly full on the other three days we were there. Given the transport hub nearby you don't need a car unless you plan to explore the area surrounding San Diego as opposed to staying in the city.

In summary I would say that as a vacation hotel, it's hard to beat for value for money given the facilities, the location and the helpful staff. I would definitely recommend it and stay here again.

Decent La Quinta well situated to stroll Old Town, shuttle to and from airport, catch public transportation to just about anywhere in San Diego. Courtyard design around pool and hot tub nice feature.
