First and foremost I don't know what happened with the other reviewer who had all kinds of billing problems, but I can say that at no time did I personally see any evidence of any bugs. I stayed there for one night when I was going to the bars in Pacific Beach (2 miles away) for a friend's birthday. I used my Priority Club points (15,000 points) and I think it was a great deal. Now granted, this is no Hilton, but you know that going in. But here's the thing about Holiday Inn Express: almost every one of them I've been to has been recently renovated, remodeled, and refurbished. The room had a flat screen HD TV, fridge, and microwave. It had a counter-height vanity which means it was probably redone in the last couple of years. It had a pleasing color scheme and new, comfortable bed with both firm and soft pillows. The AC worked well and there were no maintenance issues during my one night's stay. Things to know about this hotel are the following: the rooms are VERY small. When you walk in you have the vanity/sink on one side, right next to the entry door. On the other side is the door going into the toilet/shower area. Further into the room is a bed with a small desk, one nightstand and one small chair. The room I was in was a king bed and aside from walking around the bed, there wasn't any extra space in the room. This might normally bother me but it was just for one night. I don't know if it was the mattress or underlying bed frame that was the cause of it, but I noticed that the middle of the bed sagged compared to the edges. Again, had I been staying more than one night I would have just switched rooms but for the one night I didn't really care. Make sure you are aware of the parking situation as well. There is a parking lot on the north side of the hotel by the lobby and another very very small parking area on the interior of the hotel. Do not park there. There are only a few spaces and because of the walls of the building and pool all around, it makes getting in and out very difficult. I initially parked my car here but watched as the person parked next to me was leaving and had to do a 20-point turn to back out of their space, in the process hitting the wall behind them with their car-twice. I suspect that had I not been standing there watching, they may well have hit my car-twice. So I strongly encourage you to park in the large lot on the north side by the lobby. It did the trick for a one night's stay, especially for the price (free).
