“Great value and a very welcoming attitude”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

My husband and I recently had to attend to a family emergency in San Diego, very unanticipated, so we chose the Travelodge just by chance but we are so glad we did. It was a very trying two weeks and it was so wonderful to get a dose of warmth and family friendliness every day from everyone from front desk people to housekeeping and laundry staff. We had breakfast every morning at Adam's Steak and Egg, the hotel restaurant, and without exception each morning all the staff were so friendly. There were some mornings when we felt terrible, but we got such a boost from Leoni and Hector and Alleandro and all the staff who were so kind and happy. We fed off that positive attitude and it really helped get us through the day. The family emergency all turned out okay, and we will never forget all the people at the Travelodge who made it a little easier for us. When we come back to San Diego, we will stay there again. Besides, the hot tub is great!

Room Tip: If you're going to be there for more than just a couple of days, upgrade to the room with a frid...

“Great staff and excellent location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

We stayed at this hotel for 3 weeks and found it to be an excellent value (we found a special that worked out to less than $55/nite). Yes, the rooms and carpeting/furnishings/tv are old, but our room was large, with a clean, comfortable bed, a comfy upholstered chair with reading light, a desk, free wifi, and all was kept very clean by the great housekeeping staff. We wake early so the rolling housekeeping carts did not bother us, but I suppose they could be annoying to later, lighter sleepers. The maintenance people were also very friendly and helpful. We were given a room toward the back and we usually use earplugs anyway, so were not bothered by noise, except for a couple nights due to noisy neighbors above us. It was nice to have windows at both the front of the room and the back so we could enjoy a lot of natural light. The heated pool and huge hot tub were very clean and the decks provided a nice area to enjoy the beautiful weather. We chose not to pay extra for the micro/frig, but were happy to have use of them in the common area which also included a convenient, reasonably-priced laundry with comfortable lounge seating. We were very impressed by all the staff members, and any requests we made were handled within minutes. The office area was being remodeled while we were there and it is looking very nice. Parking was free and there was easy access to and from the hotel. At the rates we received, we would definitely stay again.

“Low budget - somewhere between a hotel and crack house”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

We did a last minute walk in at 2am and found them to have free parking, no deposit, and be about $5-10 cheaper then all the other low budget hotels on the street. We asked for a quiet room. #227 upstairs was ok. Paid $110.26 for 2 nights with tax. Now- with the name your price if you are smart enough to plan the day before, for $60 offer you can stay in a ritzier place.

The sink is clogged so it starts to overflow and fills up with water quickly. Either hair clog or someone dumped something in it on purpose. Could cause a flood, they should fix that.

The shower and bathroom were bleached clean.

The beds were great. Nice and firm. Soft clean sheets smelling like bleach.
The television was HORRIBLE so you if you love TV, this is not the place. We were watching the NFL playoffs.
The do no disturb sign comes off the door, so bring scotch tape. We did get woken up.
There was a cold draft from a 1940's window coming in from the bathroom. Ask for another blanket or shut the door.
Clean shower with good water pressure.
Stairs, I did not see an elevator.
Sandpaper ratty towels

Spacious room, and we felt ok. We have extensively traveled the world and stayed in all star places. This was average and adequate. Don't bring anyone you want to impress.
As with most drive up motels, the maid card rolls by loudly waking you up. Bring earplugs

The neighbors ask where they can locate Mary Jane, and there is probably human trafficking going on. It is a decent safe area, so don't be afraid to walk around at night.

Room Tip: Ask for # 227 the furthest from the freeway and busy street. Always be on top so nobody bangs on you...

“Good value & convenient location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2012 via mobile

We made a long road trip from SF to SD for Holiday Bowl and just needed a place to crash for 2 nights without the wives. Wouldn't have picked this place if the wives had been with us. Rooms were Ok for the price (about $69/nite inc tax). Perfectly adequate for us but two nits.

At 6am the first night some sort of cleaning truck pulled up to the restaurant for about 20 minutes.

The second night my neighbor got amorous to the point of the bed banging the wall in the middle of the night. Cliched but true.

So we didn't get a lot of sleep either night and weren't in the best of shape for the long drive home.

“yikes talk about scary!!”

Pictures do lie. When we went on the website they showed us brand new updated rooms with big nice beds with spacious bathrooms. LIES!! We were placed in a room near the stairs that was far from what the pictures promised us. Our bed was rock hard and I felt like I needed someone to crack my back after being on there for ten minutes. The bathroom was beyond disgusting and I seriously felt that our safety was in jeopardy. The door had a huge gap on the bottom that people kept throwing trash and fast food ads under. We ended up having to seal the bottom of the door with towels just to elminate the noise and trash. The only good thing is the big hot tub. But thats just about it. Never was I so happy to check out from a hotel. Next time I'll just stay at the hilton or the marriott in the same area. At least theres a better sense of security. I go to San Diego every month for both work and vacation. never again will i stay here

Room Tip: go to another hotel!!
