“Great Location to Downtown”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 February 2012

We recently stayed at the Embassy Suites - which is a perfect location for all that is downtown...right across from Seaport Village...a small walk to Midway...and just a block to the Red Trolley that can take you whereever you want to go. We took the the trolley to Qualcomm Stadium. Rooms were nice...love the suite layout - unfortunately we were running late that night and in the morning so we were unable to take advantage of the hosted cocktail hour and breakfast - but a definite recommendation and we will definitely return!

“Awesome Spot”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

This is our 2nd stay and this place is awesome. The indoor pool, Jacuzzi and weight are the best. The location is within walking distance to the Gas Light District.

Room Tip: All the rooms are awesome but the room with a balcony is the greatest.

“Perfect Stay in Downtown San Diego”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

This hotel is the perfect place to stay in Downtown San Diego. We were across the street from Seaport Village, within walking distance to Horton Plaza, the Gaslamp District, cruise ship terminals (the whale watching was wonderful!) and the sightseeing trolley. As always, the room was extremely clean, the hotel personnel were friendly and helpful, and the made-to-order breakfast and manager's reception at night were great. We had a huge Bayside suite with a baIcony and were able to watch the ships coming and going all day. I will definitely stay here again and will recommend it to everyone I know who is planning a trip to San Diego.

Room Tip: We had a Bayside suite with a balcony and were able to watch the ships coming and going all day. We...

“Great hotel, great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

We stayed the first night up the street at the Holiday Inn - that was a disaster as previously reviewed. This hotel is just up the street and close to the bay. You can easily walk downtown to the Gas Lamp restaurants or the the big shopping mall - 5 short city blocks away, or you can walk to the Midway museum and the harbour cruises in 5 minutes. You have to valet park your vehicle - which is ok since you walk most places and can get your vehicle quite quickly if you need it. The hotel has a nice free breakfast in the morning and a happy hour with free drinks in the evening. My only complaint is that it does not free WIFI internet - although if you ask they will give you a complimentary few free hours or you can use one of the 3 free terminals in the lobby ( although they can all be occupied at certain times).

For the money this as the best hotel on the San Diego waterfront IMO.

Room Tip: Corner rooms appear to be larger than other rooms

“I will never stay at another Embassy Suites again.”

I recently stayed at this hotel for one night on business. It was the worst experiences I have had at a hotel at any price level. I travel frequently all over the world for business. This time I was hosting a guest from out of the country and we chose to stay downtown San Diego for the experience for him, but I was very embarrassed by this hotel. This hotel is charging a premium rate and trying to put a premium window dressing on the experience but is completely incapable of executing the fundamentals.
Here are the specifics:
-- Valet parking is the only option for parking and it is $30. Everything in this area of town is expensive, but still for $30 you would expect good service. It is horrible. It took over 15 minutes to get the car. Furthermore all the cars arriving were stacked up and no one could get in because they were so slow to park them.
-- Front desk staff is very rude and slow. We inquired about early check-in and without even checking the reception staff just said nothing was available. Ok fine, but this also meant we could not utilize the business center because although it is next to the front desk it requires a key to enter and we were not allowed to use it until we could be assigned a room.
-- WiFi fee is $13/day and there is no free option in the lobby.
-- The elevators are slow and it is a long wait for this busy hotel. I finally was checked in and I went to my room on 9th floor only to find my keys would not work. I made my way back to the lobby, waited in line again, they re-scanned my keys with NO apology, I went back up to my room, again the keys did not work. I went back down waited in line again -- 40 minutes wasted. This time they discover OOPS! they had given me the wrong room. They get this straightened out, hand me a key and I head to my room. NO apology.
-- The room was clean. However, they are changing from old tube tvs to flat screens and the armoire in my room was half dismantled with video game controllers hanging out like a college dorm.
-- Breakfast. Somehow they managed to burn our custom cooked omelettes. The food at the buffet was terrible...soggy potatoes, rubbery French toast and the toaster barely worked.
-- While we were eating breakfast a maintenance worker rolled a cart through the middle of where everyone was eating. On top of the cart was a kitchen floormat. We saw him go through the kitchen and came right back with what appeared to be the same cart now with clean dishes were the mat was and go put them out at the buffet.
-- The hotel was very busy and I saw a lot of employees standing around doing a whole lot of nothing while guests were waiting for help.
I will spend my money elsewhere the next time I visit San Diego.
