“From one MCRD familes to another, we do not recommend this hotel.”

This is not a good hotel, period! Lacks; hot water; proper linens; clear rooms, appreciative and accommodating front desk staff and management. Breakfast is just okay, coffee not good.

Some of the staff were kind and pleasant, however they lacked proper training and accurate information. Our reservations were made 2 months in advance and we called 3 different times to confirm their amenities, shuttle service and other accommodations; all of which were not either non-existent or misrepresented over the phone.

We did not care for the shuttle service to and from the MCRD. The times were limited and the wait was long. The shuttle does not drop you off at the gate, but rather goes through the gate, the inspection and will drop off riders at different locations around the base. While this is a nice service, it makes for a lengthy wait for the riders in lines at the other end, and they hotel only runs 2 shuttles to and from MCRD.

MCRD graduation is a very special time for a Marine's family and friends, you should have a clean, comfortable and friendly place to enjoy your trip for such a special celebration.

“noisy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

This is a low budget well located hotel, its access to the main freeways are only a couple of blocks away, there is a target store at 2 blocks walking distance, an Ihop jut 3 blocks away and accross the street a Starbucks. Inside the room you have the basics for a family trip such as microwave, fridge, and a small table. The area to improve is that the hotel is to noisy and you can hear the people below and besides your room. the breakfast that is included is poor, as there is only 2 cereals, apples, sometimes oranges and only 2 tosters for the whole area, for $5 usd you can obtain a plate with scrambled eggs and pancakes that looked ok. all the phone calls have a cost, and even at the reception if you request the phone for a quick local call it will be denied. Next trip to San Diego I will pay a little more to obtain a quiet sleep and a better breakfast.

“Great Budget Hotel in SD Area - Close to everything!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

My mom & I stayed at the hotel from November 12-15th.

The first thing I noticed upon entering this room, was the Fresh Scent of the linens, it smelled like the linens were hung outside to dry!!! It was a good 1st impression. it The area seemed pretty safe for us at night. The hotel room itself was clean & had a mini fridge. There were a few minor maitenance issues (loose door lock, broken light socket) but these issues were addressed with Rosa at the Front Desk who insured she would correct the issues.
The Continental Breakfast was basic but fine for us- Muffins, Bagels, bread, cereal, danishes, Apples, Orange Juice, Milk...
The SD Zoo is s short 10 minute drive, Downtown San Diego was about 15 minutes and the Las Palmas Outlets were about 25 minutes away.
There's a Wallgreens next door, Target, CVS, Food Market and Jamba Juice etc across the street. Many dining establishments in the surrounding area, about a 2-5 minute drive...
Free wi-fi was great!

Overall I would recommend this budget hotel to friends and family looking for an inexpensive hotel with Free Parking & Continental Breakfast & Close to things in the San Diego area.

“Bad in every respect”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 November 2011

We were in San Diego for the USMC graduation and were charged an extra $100 a night because we made our reservation through the wrong website! The less than friendly manager would not give us the same rate as even the members of our own family who were there for the same reason- talk about working with the customer. However she did give us a 20% discount only ripping us off for about 70 bucks more than other guests. The rooms are across the street in a building surrounded by a parking lot that is almost too narrow to park your car. We had no coffee maker in our room and, when I called the front desk, they sent up a "hot water" maker with parts missing from it. The bottom of the exterior door had a gap so wide, a full grown doberman might have been able to crawl under it. There is a free breakfast which either consists of pastries (one full plastic bag of bagels was molded and rotten) or you could have eggs and pancakes IF you had the right colored ticket. Apparently, you get the tickets based on how you reserve your room. This place is horrible; RUN to another hotel if in San Diego.

Room Tip: Choose a room anywhere else.

“Reasonably priced place for family vacation”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2011

- Hotel was very clean, including the pool area
- Staff was courteous and helpful
- Shuttle was easy to sign up for and use. It was a bit late one day for zoo pickup so be sure not to rely on it if you're on a tight sight-seeing schedule as I believe priority is given to airport trips
- I disliked that smoking was allowed in the pool area
- I thought it would be nice if there were recycling boxes in the room for bottles and paper. We ended up carrying our recycling around with us until we found other public bins.
- When we reserved, we were told there would be a free continental breakfast. This was cancelled half way through our stay but we were given vouchers for a limited selection in the onsite restaurant.
- The restaurant food was good but the service was very inconsistent. The waitresses were fine but sometimes the food took an extraordinarily long time to come, even if the restaurant did not appear busy. This resulted in us having to cancel our order one morning so we could make the shuttle, and we had to buy food elsewhere, which was annoying and expensive.
- A/C unit was rather noisy
- Our room was near the front of the hotel but the freeway noise didn't bother us.
- Overall, it was a good place for our family vacation. I was there with my 13 year old niece.
- There was a family movie night by the pool on Friday and Saturday.
- The public computer in the lobby went out of service on our second last day there and we were unable to use it to check in for our flight, as it was still out of service when we left the next day.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the far side from the highway...as a bonus, they are closer to the pool!
