“Best HIE experience in three continents!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

I don't say that lightly having stayed at mostly HIEs in the US, Asia, and Europe. The shuttle service to and from the airport was great. What made it even better was the complimentary service to Old Town, Seaworld, and the zoo. The drivers were always friendly and prompt. The hotel is located near the freeway and railway but our room was on the opposite side so it was minimal. The free wifi was reliable but it makes you sign back in with your password each day. The speed wasn't blazing but it served its purpose for e-mail and web browsing. I downloaded a few TV shows for the flight back and it took longer than my 10MB connection at home. If you've eaten at HIE before, the cinnamon rolls are hot and ready. Plenty of coffee at breakfast and 24/7 by the front desk. Priority members receive a small gift bag upon arrival. The free coffee 24/7 was nice since I wake up much earlier than breakfast serving time (6am). Two newspapers are available first come first serve, USA Today and the local paper. Food items include the juice bar, pancake maker (flat, no taste), eggs (avoid), biscuits were okay, the gravy helps a little. Includes sausage and egg omelet (tasty, not bad at all), milk and cereals, boiled eggs, amd yogurt. Nothing really impressive to write home about except the coffee with favored creamers and the warm cinnamon rolls. The king bed room was huge, the bathroom was the largest of all HIEs we've been in. The jacuzzi was a nice touch, including the TV on the wall. The refrigerator came in handy for cold drinks and leftovers. The staff went out of their way for anything we needed, and always with a smile. Staying at this location made our experience in San Diego very enjoyable and worry free. You won't be disappointed, good luck!

Room Tip: Light sleepers should ask for the rooms away from the freeway. King bed rooms are quite large and ex...

“Well kept, standard holiday inn express; microwave/mini-fridge; paid 15000 priority club points”

1. Standard holiday inn express that met all expectations
2. Right next to freeway so be sure to get room on opposite side else freeway noise is unbearable. I had standard room on opposite side at night I only got limited freeway noise disturbance. Very close to airport but I did not feel any aircraft noise disturbance
3. Best thing I liked was the awesome choice of channels; four HBO, two showtime and every cable channel imaginable, all without extra charge. Best channel choice I have ever seen. No matter what your liking or niche, you should always be able to find some interesting tv program to watch. Nice HDTV flat screen LCD
4. My third floor room was clean and well furnished; looked very attractive with comfortable king bed, plenty of lighting and towels; standard holiday inn express toiletries
5. Weird layout; you have to go out to get from one building to another
6. Did not try swimming pool, exercise room so cannot comment on them
7. Standard holiday inn express breakfast, which I find quite reasonable. Pancake machine to make fresh pancakes which I have not seen elsewhere
8. I did not have much interaction with staff as I just came for one night’s sleep but staff was polite, courteous and helpful
9. Limited parking so arrive early; room was reasonably spacious but hotel in small lot so everything rather cramped
10. If paying cash, below $75 is good deal; above $100 is overpriced

Room Tip: Stay away from side facing freeway

“Wonderful hotel & staff!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

Stayed here while attending our son's graduation from MCRD. This is a perfect location for those attending the MCRD graduations. Only minutes from Gate 5! The staff was very pleasant as were the accommodations. We would highly recommend this hotel for those that are looking to save some money, but also receive a good place to stay!

“Great one night stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

Great experience. Was platinum PC member and received free upgrade to a suite. Desk staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel also had a small convenience store which was nice, and unusual for Holiday Inn Expresses. Typical Holiday Inn Express breakfast. The entrance off of the street was a bit confusing, but they have a parking ramp underneath that made parking easy. I would definitely stay here again.

“Standard Express”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

The hotel was nothing special, considering that the rate was pretty close to much better hotels in downtown, I would not choose it again. The convenience was the airport shuttle and the breakfast (again standard at other Holiday Inn Express).
