2nd time staying at the Pearl, for 6 nights. Staff was great, as always, although we found the front desk girl to be a bit, how should I say, unenthusiastic. Other than that, the room was quiet and comfy, we recommend a quiet room over the weekend, as the bar and restaurant get pretty busy thurs-sat night until midnight or so. the vibe in the hotel is awesome, funky and laid back. the place looks fantastic, we love all of the landscaping with the southwestern plantings, and the projector showing surf movies over the pool. the bed was one of the most cozy hotel beds i have ever slept in. every room has a pet fish, ours was named Rambo. Love the Pearl!

My review will be a little different than others as we did not stay at the pearl. My husband and I had booked a room at the pearl for 6 nights, but we had also just been in Vegas for 6 nights so needless to say we had a LOT of luggage etc. when we arrived at the pearl we were greeted by the smell of delicious food, good music, friendly staff and lots of other guests/locals just having a good time! When we arrived at our room we were greeted by a modern sophisticated, environmentally friendly, clean space! However due to the fact that this is a boutique hotel the rooms were too small for us (this time due to the fact we had so much luggage and we had 6 more days of travel) I should mention that although the rooms are small they have made good use of the space! My husband and I decided that it was just not the type of room we needed for this trip. I reluctantly made my way back to the front desk to ask if we could cancel our room and was expecting them to charge us for half of the stay which is the policy at almost every hotel and is also fair....I was happily surprised by an entirely different scenario...the gal at the front desk apologized for the room being to small and offered to move us to their slightly larger room which would have been great but another guest had specially requested that room for a portion of our stay, so instead the gal at the front desk cancelled our reservation, offered to make a new reservation for us at a different hotel and gave us 2 free drinks to use when we return to the pearl for supper (which we will because the food smelled great and the atmosphere was awesome!) In short...although we did not end up staying I wanted my review to show others that you DO NOT come across service like this often...even at 5 star properties...at the pearl they really do put guests first even if it means they lost out on a reservation! For this reason alone when we return to San Diego again (under different circumstances less luggage etc) we will definitely stay at the pearl! Kudos to the staff and management... a lot of hotels could learn a thing or 2 from you about guest service! You are second to none!

A friendly boutique hotel. Well designed. Urban hip without being pretentious. And VERY affordable. None of the loud chaotic scene and traffic headache of staying downtown but only 10 minutes away... so a great way to be in the heart of SD while keeping a distance from the drunk goofballs and mid west tourists that that flock to downtown on the weekends. We jogged along the harbor for sunset and enjoyed a cocktail at the cool bar in the evening. I like that it is small and feels like friends run it. Very friendly staff. All around, an excellent stay. We were there in Jan so perhaps during the summer, it is a pumping scene but it felt pretty relaxed - which we enjoyed.

The fish in the light fixture really sold it for us. Wish we'd been there in the summer for dive-in movies. Look, it's not the Hilton, but it was still awesome. We had a great, comfortable, incredibly affordable stay. Would go back in a heartbeat.
