A nightclub...not a hotel

What a shame...a great restaurant and exceptional rooms are completely lost to the fact that this is not a hotel. It is a luxury youth hostel nightclub that anyone wishing to actually sleep will greatly regret. I ended up checking out of a very comfortable suite at 11:00PM and leaving to an inferior product at Se Hotel which was at the very least quiet. Go ahead...be lured in...but if the rooftop nightclub is open you will be subjected to a thumping bass drum of hell like you have never imagined. Don't believe this and all the other reviews here stating the same? Give it a go...if you are not driven crazy by the noise you are either deaf or 18.

Yes, we were warned, but this is basically 3 nightclubs with a hotel built around it. It's pretty noisy. If you're 21-25 and want to do nothing but party, good place to stay. Otherwise, it's loud and the rooms are Euro-styled, with a bath/shower in the middle of the room that leaks. Not an enjoyable stay.

Stayed at the Andaz (formerly the Ivy) for Valentines Day and had a wonderful time. I actually live in downtown SD anyway but wanted to have a little romantic getaway for Vday, even if only for the night.

We were lucky to get a hotwire rate of $113 per night, so i thought it was quite a steal. Hotel lobby is very chic and modern- my style, so i thought it was beautiful. Check in was no prob and they served complimentary Evian while I waited. Staff was very pleasant and courteous-- not like some of the reviews i had read on here.

Despite our lower rate we did not have a room facing the inside, but instead had a city facing view which i thought was great. As many reviews state, the rooms are pretty small, but given the decor and layout I found them to be very cozy-- great for a weekend or night of romance (all you need is a great bed, right?-- and the hotel did not dissapoint). They had great toiletries and robes as well as complimentary snacks and drinks (pretty rare for such a highly rated place). Definitely caters to adults as there is a "booty kit" with "intimate" items i found to be amusing :) At night you could slightly hear the music from the roof, but not bothersome at all as it didnt wake me from the little sleep i got anyway-- but i am a twenty-something (although not for long) :) Overall rooms were comfy, clean, and beautiful.

My favorite part of the stay, however, was the roof top pool. Great decor and great view-- plus its heated (although no jacuzzi) !Despite it being vday, a holiday weekend, and incredibly warm weather for february, it was virtually empty, so we felt like we had the area to ourselves. we ended up lounging around in the cabanas and pool beds even after we checkout. it was just very peaceful and romantic-- not as obnoxious and crowded as it typically was during the summer. Also-- awesome Kobe burger, but of course you'll pay 12 for it!

Overall, I highly reccommend. Probably not worth the regular rate since the rooms are small. But given what we paid and the fact that the rooftop was empty, couldnt really ask for more.

Unless you're coming here for an all-night rave/bachelor party the Anadz aka Ivy Hotel is a very bad choice.

We stayed here on Valentine's Day - well, I should say we TRIED to stay here. We ended up checking out at 9:30 PM because once the roof top club started up, we knew there was no romance or sleep happening for us. Fortunately we are locals and could just drive home but it was certainly disappointing/angering. The front desk took care of refunding our stay and parking fee right away and offered us free drinks at the bar (which we declined). So at least it was handled well. But her explanation of "this hotel offers a night-club feel" is a sad understatement of the truth: the hotel IS a night-club. Unless you don't plan to go to sleep until after 2 AM (and have $300 to spend on it), I'd strongly recommend staying elsewhere.

The decor is nice and location is great as are aspects of the service so that's why I'm giving it 2 stars instead of 1. There is a bartender at the lounge bar (first floor) that I was very impressed with - his name is Chris, even if you're not staying at the hotel I'd go in and see him for a drink.

Also points off for a key-card fiasco at check-in that stranded many people trying to check in for hours (we didn't get into our room until 6 PM although we arrived at 3 PM, no offer to comp drinks, etc for that), and the fact that the pool/deck area on the roof which is one of the major perks of the hotel during the day allows SMOKING in all areas -- gross!
