“Beware the Website”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2011

I should start out by saying I did not stay at this B&B. In fact, I never even called. Having read the reviews, it sounded perfect.

Unfortunately the website at http://www.bankershillmanor.com/ is something out of the late 1990s. I couldn't get a feel for the place, because there were absolutely no room descriptions, or prices. Clicking either " Inside the Manor" or "Guest Room and Polices" take you to the same page, which has a few small unlabeled pictures.

They tell you nothing about the neighborhood, nothing about the food, and there is no way to select a room. Worse, on the main page there is a picture of either a thin dark dog or a large bat (it isn't clear which) laying on a pillowed sofa, presumably in one of the guest rooms, labeled "Everyone gets a great night's sleep at Bankers Hill Manor!".

If it weren't for the sterling reviews in Trip Advisor, I might have assumed this B&B served double duty as a kennel! As it is, I'm going to give this place a pass ... it may be unjust, but given the universal availability of the internet, there are other B & B's in San Diego which have websites that allow you to research and compare their facilities before making a reservation ... which is why I think Trip Advisor is so great in the first place.

Room Tip: Read the reviews. The site will tell you nothing

“Great Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 July 2011

I actually stayed here with my wife on our Honeymoon in June 2009 but never added a review at the time. Bankers Hill is top notch. The B&B is located in a lovely, safe area not far from Bilboa Park. The private parking behind an electronic gate was good to have. The rooms are spacious, spotless and exceptionally comfortable. We stayed in the Africa suite for 4 nights and felt right at home. The bathroom is large with a big, powerful shower, oversized tub and double sink. The Africa suite also has a private sun room which is great for lounging in. The best thing about this place, however,is the owners Terry and Linda. They were so welcoming and helpful from the moment we arrived until the second we left. They even provided us with a complimentary bottle of bubbly as we were on honeymoon. My wife has many food intolerances and Terry and Linda were very mindful of this for her. They managed to provide her with a beautiful breakfast that varied every morning. I fell in love with Terry's masterfully constructed granola, yogurt and fruit creations. In summary Banker's Hill is exactly what every good B&B should be; a great property in a nice location with amazing food served up by charming, helpful hosts.

“Rude and Unresponsive”

The reviews sounded great--assuming one can get the courtesy of a response. So I was eager to get a booking and called over a month in advance--courteously. In fact, I called FOUR TIMES and never got the courtesy of a return call, no less even a voicemail. I also e-mailed them and tried their on-site communication page--again, no responses at all. THis is the WORST callousness and rudeness I have ever experienced from a B&B or hotel. Perhaps they are getting too big for their britches. If I would give them a zero I would. DISGRACEFUL .

“Can't get any better than Bankers Hill Manor!!! A Must Stay!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 March 2010

There is not one bad thing i can say about Bankers Hill Manor! Me and my husband just returned from a 5 day vacation in San Diego and staying at this bed and breakfast was nothing but amazing! Terry and Linda were the most hospitable and welcoming hosts. They truly made every effort to make us feel at home. Here a a few of the highlights that we experienced during our stay there:

1. Breakfast was amazing! The food was so fresh, light and tasty! What a great way to start our days exploring the city and beaches of San Diego.

2. It was so nice to wake up knowing that hot coffee was ready for us right outside of our suite every morning. It was great coffee too!!

3. The house was very warm and welcoming. We absolutely loved the decor and the layout of the rooms and the common areas.

4. We stayed in the Africa suite, and would recommend it to anyone looking to stay at Bankers Hill Manor. The bed was super comfortable and they use such soft and comfy linens as well. The bathroom in the suite is enormous and includes a hot tub and a big stand up shower. The towels provided were super soft and luxurious as well. Again, I can't emphasize enough the cleanliness!

5. Terry and Linda were the best! Every recommendation they gave us was spot-on, including restaurant and activity suggestions. They really did everything they could to help us out during our stay and were always warm and cheery!

Again, staying at Bankers Hill Manor was awesome! I highly recommend it to anyone planning a trip to San Diego!

“Wonderful start to our Honeymoon!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 February 2010

I apologize as this review is long, long overdue - but as they as they say good things come to those who wait!! My husband and a booked Bankers Hill Manor for the first leg of our honeymoon. From the moment we booked I had a great feeling about the place. I spoke to Terry on the phone, and mentioned that it was our honeymoon and he genuinely seemed excited for us and offered us a free night to celebrate! After I confirmed the booking, Terry sent us information on the San Diego area and sites to see - great customer service. When we arrived my husband and I fell in love with the house, absolutely beautiful. We stayed in the Africa suite which has a fantastic sunroom, there we were greeted with a bottle of champagne from Terry & Linda - such a nice, thoughtful touch. Terry & Linda were fantastic, such interesting people.... unfortunately Terry was working the days we were there so my husband didn't get a chance to bend his ear about his time in the military on the aircraft carrier. Breakfasts were always delicious (loved the greek yogurt parfaits) and preceded by coffee outside of your bedroom door. Linda gave us so many great tips on where to eat (the bronx pizza, arriverderci's - loved that place!!, and a great little mexican restaurant nearby).

I can honestly not say one negative thing about Bankers Hill Manor - we loved it. Although it is probably not a place we could afford every time we visit San Diego - I absolutely will be back some day, and I do recommend it to anyone that wants to add something special to their trip. Thank you Terry & Linda!!
