“Train and Train Crossing makes it IMPOSSIBLE to sleep!”

I'm a Hilton Diamond member and the experience at this hotel has made me consider changing to another chain completely! I have lost all confidence in Hilton. My party and I (4 rooms rented) specifically asked about the train noise and we were lied to by the front desk person. She told us that the trains stopped at 11pm and didn't begin again until 6am. She neglected to tell us that the trains run until nearly midnight AND a HUGE freight train comes through at 4:15AM!!! Then, the trains started again at 5:15AM.

I showered and departed the hotel 2.5 hours before I needed to because I couldn't stand the train and bell noise! Horrible experience and I caution all except the totally deaf to stay away from this property. As a train station it's fine, but as a place you're supposed to sleep it's a joke.

Shame on you Hilton!

Room Tip: If you cannot find a place outside in the dirt at the very least, ask for a room in the front of the...

Dear Trip Advisor Community, in light of this review I wanted to take an opportunity to update you on the "Quiet Zone". According to the San Diego Centre City Development Corporation (CCDC), a party that has been instrumental in the approval and eventual implementation of this project, the new "aggressive" timeline for full implementation is early June 2012. I have only been affiliated with this hotel for approximately 4 months, but in looking at previous documents it appears as though this moving target is making my predecessors and I appear to be disingenuous. Since my arrival here I have stated, and have caused my staff to state, that full quiet zone implementation would be by April1, 2012 and it pains me to say the completion time has once again moved. In the few months that I have been associated with this hotel I have been encouraged to see that most of our issues have been train related and can assure you that we will strive to make up for it through our staff service. It is my wish that this new date does not change, unless it's for the better, but if it does, I will be updating once again!

“Noisy and poor service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

We had to stay for the New Year night - the prices for other hotels for that night were astronomical. This one was affordable for a number of reasons. It is close to railroad, but what is even worse, is the soundproofing between the room. Actually, this is a problem in all Hampton Inns where we stayed. The receptionist was arrogant and plain rude, which is very rare in South California. Parking is awfully tight, and they allow big trucks there. Location is close to downtown, but it appears that it used to be quite seedy, and it still feels that way.

“Eh”

As Hampton Inns go, I'd say this one is below average. The LOCATION is the best thing going for it, but the look and feel leaves something to be desired. The staff was friendly, the breakfast is the same you get at any other Hampton Inn. Probably the biggest drawback was the train going by loudly once in a while (at any time, day or night). The TV channel selection sucked, no fridge or microwave (should have asked, apparently), and shower pressure was weak. Ok for the price and suitable for business travel, but if you are here on vacation, splurge and upgrade.

“Inexpensive , clean, nice people”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

I stayed here last week for two nights. It is a good deal at $89 a night. It is very close to everything, and the rooms are clean, and the king suite I had, very large. The service was good, and the breakfast was standard Hampton Inn. The hotel is not new, and the rooms are a bit warn. Overall, a good place to stay close to the airport and the city. There is both a train and a trolley, so ask to be away from them. A room facing the front of the building

Thank you very much for your kind words. As mentioned in one of the reviews below, we are so looking forward to the implementation of the "Quiet Zone" for downtown that is coming shortly. Thank you for your business and we hope to serve you again!

“Would Not Recommend”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

Too close to the train and trolley tracks, VERY noisy.

For the price, would have expected better.

Had to REQUEST a microwave and frig.

Shower door was very unstable.

The people were nice, but still, for the price, it was not a good experience.

Room Tip: Definitely up front, not in back.

The proximity to most things in San Diego has been a great asset for this hotel, including the trolley service that runs directly behind the hotel. Unfortunately this asset also creates a problem for us with our guests who are lighter sleepers. I am happy to report that according to The City, we will see a substantial relief fron the train noise beginning in March with the completed implementation of a "Quiet Zone". Thanks for the other feedback and perhaps you can give us a chance in the near future.
