“Nothing says welcome to a hotel like a dead lamp abandoned in the hallway.”

Free parking (good). Checked into the hotel - was not asked for ID or credit card for incidentals (didn't realize at that time that there were NO incidentals). I believe we had the best room in the house. Back side of hotel is some kind of weekly/monthly rental property - pretty seedy guests hanging around smoking on steps. Opened door to our room and was met with terrible air freshener smell, apparently used to cover up smoke smell. Opened windows, which remained open the entire weekend. Grape Street is loud at night, but noise was preferable to bad smell. Amenities were of poor quality - bar soap and "conditioning shampoo." Advertised continental breakfast was frozen waffles, bread and a toaster. Coffee was available in the morning on Saturday, but not on Sunday. When we went to check out, front desk clerk was outside smoking. He said we should just leave our key cards on the counter. There's no real reason to ask anyone how was their stay - everyone knows the answer is "NOT GOOD."

“Decent Budget Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2011

This hotel was comparable to any Super 8/ Econo Lodge I have patroned. The room was actually quite large with a fridge/microwave/t.v. and internet.

The room itself was clean and basic and the bathroom clean. No evidence of cockroaches as previous reviews stated. My only recommendation would be to invest in better pillows/towels. They were very flat.

The staff was very accomodating to any requests to make my stay enjoyable and appreciated the little extras. As a Canadian from Edmonton, Alberta, it was a pleasure to be treated so nicely.

The location was perfect with in a 20-25 min walk to downtown/gaslamp/ and hillcrest. Little Italy and the harbour are only only 3-5 minute walk. Excellent trolley system nearby for the lazy people that won't just walk. You can get anywhere from here and am so happy I did not stay at Hotel circle area for the same price.

Biggest complaint: The location is very noisy being next to a freeway and main road of Grape St.

“Excellent Bargain”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2010

Recently stayed at the hotel and had an excellent experience. The staff were responsive (family owned) and extremely friendly. They were always very accommodating to our needs no matter what the hour was. We missed not having a coffeemaker in the room but they made us coffee whenever we wanted it. Perfect location for the convention center and the airport. Rooms a bit dated but bathrooms were great! If you are looking for a great bargain on a budget hotel in a nice area....STAY HERE! Quick walk to EXCELLENT affordable dining - 5 mins walk to the harbor - close to public transportation - short cab ride around to major attractions.

“SCARY”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 November 2010

I was scheduled to stay at Harborview on November 20, 2010 for one night. I attempted to check in twice, the second time was about 3:30 PM, both times no rooms were available as none had been cleaned. The second time I attempted to check in, I was asked to pay an additional $10.00 fee, which was never explained to me. I told the man at the counter that I had already paid my hotel through Southwest and told him that I did not think that an additional fee was part of the deal. When asking about the fee, the man at the counter became angry, began shouting at me, was verbally abusive. I told the man to stop shouting at me, at which time, he continued his tirade. I asked to speak to the manager, who the front counter man called. The "manager" was a woman, would not explain the $10.00 fee. I asked for my credit card back, at which time the man at the counter SLAMMED my credit card on the counter in front of me while still in a verbal tirade. I then exited the lobby and called Southwest Airlines who booked the room. Southwest credited back my room charge and made other arrangements for me. I went back into the front counter and asked for my registration slip, as my personal information was on the slip. I took the slip and left the hotel. The man at the front counter followed me out of the hotel and began following me up the street toward their parking lot, shouting at me, demanding I pay the $10.00. I had to tell the man not to come any closer to me. I went to my car, began driving out of the hotel driveway. The man from the front counter was still standing on the sidewalk in front of the hotel shouting at me. Apparently the hotel is trying to extort extra money from customers, that is the only explanation for the request that I could come up with. WOW Almost had to call the Police for help !!

“Do not stay here, run!!!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2010

When my wife and I stayed at this hotel(if you want to call it that), it was a terrible, terrible experience. I cannot get out my head the horror of this hotel, I believe that a hostel would've been a better bet for us. The sheets were disgusting, and I strongly believe that they were to trying to pass off twin size sheets on a queen sized bed, they did not fit and it was obvious to anyone that looked from a distance. The staff consisting of one man in the lobby( a 5x5 space with a register)resembled a zombie out of a movie. I don't recall any cleaning staff, and I guess that makes sense since the entire time the passageways smelled like urine. The room was small, the sheets, covers, mattress, and bathroom were disgusting! I do not recommend this hotel, and suggest that it's worth paying an extra $10 a night to stay somewhere else. I realize how bad this all sounds, but trust me it's all true, so I am trying to spare you the horrors I experienced by staying there, good luck on your search.
