“Very nice and good hotel, with good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

The Doubletree is a relative modern building, with a very large entry hall, and large nice clean rooms. Rooms have a nice bathroom and a large flatscreen tv. Breakfast is available in the hotel (either included in your room price, or either you can order a la carte), as well as dinner. The hotel has a fitness room, outdoor pool and indoor pool, which you can all use for free! In other words: you get quality at this hotel.

The location is in my opinion quite good. Although the hotel is not located in the downtown area (it is located at the end of a dead-end street, with a shopping area just nearby), it is perfectly located to reach all interesting destinations. The reason for this is the Trolley station that is just across the street! The San Diego Trolley (green line here) can bring you to downtown in a short time, and also leads to numerous other places (even to the border with Mexico) and attractions. The Trolley is very convenient, runs every 15 minutes, and day pass is only 5 dollars (you can buy them from machines in every station).

To summarize: a good hotel, and because of the trolley nearby also in a perfect location.

Interesting tip: the hotel has a shuttle service to the airport, which runs every hour (on the hour). It's only 10 dollars for a ride, which is cheaper than a taxi ride to the airport.

Thank you for your recent Trip Advisor review and all your fantastic feedback. I am pleased to hear how much you loved our beautiful hotel and your newly renovated guest room with top-of-the-line features. I am so pleased to hear that you enjoyed both our indoor and outdoor pool, a feature that is not found anywhere else in Mission Valley. I am delighted to know that you felt you found real value in your stay and that you also found the San Diego Trolley to be so invaluable during your visit. I agree that the San Diego Trolley is a fantastic way to get around San Diego, and a great option if you want to make the journey to Mexico. “Great hotel for a meeting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

I was the guest speaker at a meeting recently at this hotel. The meeting staff was very available, the front desk personnel were very helpful, and the ice water never ran out. We had to add extra chairs as more guests showed up than we would have expected and it was done quickly and happily. Great experience!

“Excellent choice; very friendly staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

I recently spent three nights at this hotel while attending a conference that was held there--otherwise I wouldn't have chosen to stay there, but convenience won out. I was quite pleased with my choice as the room I had on the 10th floor was spacious and well appointed and I found the location to be quite convenient. As I only had short breaks from the conference I appreciated the opportunity to nip out in my rental car to nearby grocery stores and other shopping (lots nearby), as well as to the shops and restaurants in the adjacent Hazard Center. I also used the trolley stop that is right across the street to go to Old Town, so transit connections are good from there.

With a car, the location is very good as there is easy access to most of where one would need to go in the city. The biggest plus for me is the level of staff friendliness and helpfulness. The fact of the matter is that when one has many options for fairly similar types of hotels, a repeat visit will come down to whether or not one has been treated nicely by the staff. If they show that they care that I am giving them my custom then it is more than likely that I'll be back.

One negative is that they charge $16 per night for parking in their parkade. This seems to be standard for hotels in the area, but it doesn't mean I have to like it. I noticed that some people parked on the street out front, which looked reasonably secure to me.

Wi Fi was $11 per day, which I didn't like paying either, but it worked really really well so that was good. Free or cheap Wi Fi is useless if it doesn't work well, so at least I know I was getting good use for my dollar. Web page load speeds were fast and I was able to Face Time with no glitches whatsoever. That's about all I ask for.

I've given this hotel five stars based on a comparison with other similar hotels I've stayed in the last 12 months. A nice room and great staff made this a superior experience.

“Nice Suburban Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

This hotel is pretty convenient if you're attending a football game or doing business nearby: it's close to 163, the 5 and the 8, is a very short drive to UCSD and is next-door to a shopping mall and some national chain restaurants, and right down the street from Qualcomm Stadium. The DoubleTree is only 15 minutes from the airport rental car site, so it's an easy option for those needing to work in downtown as well.

Our room was large enough for two, it had adequate closet space and dresser/storage space for two, and the king sized bed was comfortable. The only small qualm is that there isn't much counter space around the bathroom sink to accommodate two people. Instead, I used one of the two shelves that held the clean towels and shampoo/conditioner (consolidated them into one shelf) and my wife took the entire space around the sink for her stuff, so it worked out OK. Rooms have a medium sized flat screen LG HD TV, a couple of HBO channels and the usual variety of HD local/national stations as well.

The hotel area was always clean, the indoor and outdoor pools were spotless and the exercise facility seemed adequate. There is ample parking, but it's not free--the good news is that your room key gets you into/out of the garage so it's easy to come and go at will. We found the staff in the lobby/desk were all very helpful and pleasant to deal with in terms of directions and suggestions. The three elevators worked fairly quickly so there wasn't a lot of waiting around. Our room was booked to include the buffet breakfast, which was OK. There were scrambled eggs, breakfast potatoes, bacon/sausage, various pastries, yogurt, breads, cereals, etc., but nothing really outstanding or bad. They would also prepare eggs to order or prepare an omelet as part of the buffet offering. There is a fairly large bar/TV area that seemed to get a fair amount of traffic each night, and there was another restaurant that we did not try during our stay. The best overall food item IMHO is the wonderful DoubleTree chocolate-chip cookies that are generously available! Tons of calories AND flavor....and they are simply wonderful.

Great room and good staff. My king room on the 8th floor was large for most USA hotel rooms. Great hotel to stay at if you need to visit Sharp hospital. Not great for most turist stops.
