“Great Property, Great Staff!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

We recently stayed at the Hotel Palomar in San Diego because it is a now a Kimpton Hotel, and we are Kimpton In-Touch members. We specifically stayed here because Kimpton is known for it's "pet-friendly" atmosphere, and we like to travel with our two small dogs. The Palomar was no exception. The staff is so friendly (and dog-friendly) and helpful, and really went out of their way to make our trip enjoyable. It's hard enough to travel with pets, and finding a luxury hotel that accepts them (and with open arms) is more tough. The staff had great suggestions on parks, bars and restaurants where dogs are welcome. They also had dog treats waiting for them upon check-in, dog beds set up in our room, along with food and water bowls. We didn't use their other dog services, but frequently saw the staff members providing dog-walking and dog-sitting services for other guest. It's very unusual to find such a nice hotel that provides those services as well.
As far as the location, it can't be beat. Right in the heart of downtown San Diego, surrounded by plenty of restaurants, shops and bars. Walking distance to plenty more than you would want to do, including Seaport Village. It really didn't get much better.
As far as the room, it was comfortable and cozy. The bathroom was clean and contemporary as well. I wish the parking for hotel quests was a little less than $36/night, but the room rate was more than reasonable. We can't wait to come back!

“Fantastic property with a wonderful staff!”

Simply put....we were treated like "Rock Stars" the entire weekend! Our twin boys were celebrating their 9th birthday and although I did include that information in the on line booking I made, I certainly did not expect the exceptional treatment we received from check-in to check out. Every employee at this property went out of there way to ensure our children were made to be very special.

The property is modern and gorgeous and although we only ate breakfast at the hotel...it was superb. Service was excellent as was the food.

The attention to detail at this hotel is far superior to many. A special thanks to Astrid...who went above and beyond to make our stay so memorable. Johnson...Thank you also for being so welcoming. Gilbert...you da man!...made quite an impression on the kids.

Dear Lori C,

I am so happy you and your nine year old twin boys were treated like Rock Stars!! Astrid, Johnson and Gilbert among others had so much fun celebrating their birthday.

Hopefully we'll see you before their 10th birthday. Please let us know when you're returning to San Diego.

“Beautiful property, sumptuous room, free wine, street noise...”

The good stuff: Palomar's are typically upscale, very modern, hip, comfortable hotels. This property lived up to the reputation of other gorgeous Palomar Hotel's I've stayed. The lobby was inviting and beautiful. The bar...well...let's just say that I could move into the bar and be quite comfortable. The staff was friendly and beautiful (I swear, Kimpton consistently hires from Hollywood Central Casting - a very diverse and attractive staff). My room and bathroom were beautifully appointed and very comfortable. Plus, all Kimpton's that I've visited provide a free wine "happy hour" from 5-6pm, and free coffee/tea in the morning. My favorite color is free, so I indulged, gladly. The hotel is VERY conveniently located in the heart of the Gaslamp district, walking distance to various restaurants, bars, clubs, and other hotels.
The bad stuff: Valet parking is $36 a night. Seriously?! In this neighborhood (sketchy), you actually WANT to valet park, so suck up and pay it...however...ouch! My room was on the 8th floor, but I could still hear the street noise at 1am when revelers were leaving bars/clubs and noisily yelling in the street. Not fun. That said...I'll stay at this hotel again.

Room Tip: If you want to get a good nights sleep without street noise, get a room that is NOT overlooking 5th...

“Great service. very contemporary hotel.”

Great location, very very contemporary, even the entry door is weird and tricky the whole wall moves and rotates. The bar is nice, prompt service all fresh ingredients drinks. Thats good and bad for some since they can't make like a standard tom collins or long island. Service was great from top to bottom. Seems like everyone gets paid well, from the way they treat you. Great location

Room Tip: spend the extra to get a larger room than the standard

“Whether its business or leisure, let the staff at the Kimpton take care of you!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

No matter which Kimpton myself and my family stay at the staff has been phenomenal! The first Kimpton we stayed at in Alexandria,Va, we had all three of our children with us. The gentleman who brought us up to our room mentioned the different types of pillows they had and the kids were excited! Do you know he went out of his way to bring EVERY single pillow up to our room! The kids had so much fun!
The Palomar is gorgeous! The pool is warm and the food is orgasmic and again..... Their staff is the best!!!!!! The location is berfect as well. Great stuff to do both day and night near here! Thank you Corrie and Johnson for making us feel so special and welcome!

Room Tip: If you have a specific need, call the Kimpton or talk to the person at the front desk. They are so w...
