“Always Welcoming”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

I have stayed at the Sommerset Suites Hotel in San Diego several times and I have always found the staff very friendly and accommodating. I usually stay for around a week and having the laundry facility is a plus. The hotel rooms are comfortable, clean and have a nice kitchen area. The location of the hotel allows you to easily get to the Downtown area or access the highway system.
I always recommed this hotel to my business associates and friends traveling in the San Diego area.

“Nice Hotel, good location (near Hospitals) for good price”

I stayed at Sommerset Suites while on a business trip at UCSD Hospital. I enjoyed my stay there very much.

The hotel is perfectly located. It is a few block from the main highway, but not right on top of it. So you can easily get to downtown or the beach without any trouble. It is within walking distance to all the hospitals and offices. There is a fabulous dining and shopping district right across the street. Pretty much anything you are in the mood for you can get within a 5 minute walk. Being a fairly young female and traveling alone, I am always careful of my surroundings. I felt safe walking around at night and being in the hotel alone.

The hotel itself is nice. It is a simple hotel, nothing really fancy about it. But it is comfortable and clean. The rooms are very large! And comes with a full kitchen complete with a closet full of kitchen utensils and supplies. While my room only had a king, I felt as though with the right beds, you could comfortably sleep 4-5 people easily. The bathroom was nice and clean with a good amount of counter space.

The hotel has a pool and hottub. I did not get the chance to go in, but I walked around it and saw people in there enjoying it. It has a good amount of parking underneath the hotel. The hotel served a wonderful breakfast with freshly made waffles, eggs, cereal, etc. The hotel staff was so wonderful and friendly. They were quick to help me when I got locked out of my room and had great recommendations for food and fun local places.

If you are looking for a nice hotel around the hospitals and even a little out of downtown but still close to everything, this is a great hotel. It is reasonable priced, has great features, and can really accommodate anyone.

“Great bargain for the service and location in Hillcrest”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

This is my second stay at Sommerset, and will continue to be my hotel of choice as long as they keep up their good job. For a 3-4ish star hotel, it has spacious rooms that are clean, and decent furniture. Mattress is comfortable as long as you're okay with a little softness. Two small things -- the dining room table was wobbly, but a repair person QUICKLY replaced it with a fine table. Second, the toilet flushing was somewhat weak, and cause one plunging experience -- again, the hotel tech staff we're on it immediately. Overall, I recommend without reservation.

Room Tip: If a view is important, avoid rooms facing the hospital -- get a front hotel or pool view room.

“Home away from home”

We stayed in January 2012 in order to attend our son's graduation from boot camp at MCRD. The accommodations were perfect for our family of four - two adults and two toddlers. The staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and neat and having a full kitchen was a real bonus for the family. The best part of all was the location - MCRD, Balboa Park, Sea World, even downtown are all very close. Dozens of restaurants and several shops are an easy walk in the Hillcrest neighborhood - even for our two-year old.
I offer two caveats: a hospital is next door, so there are occasional ambulance sirens; the pool is only 3 feet deep, so serious lap swimmers may struggle to exercise. If you need to work out, I think they have a discount at the 24-Hr. fitness across the street.
Go. It's a very nice place.

“A great place to be for a short or extended hotel stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

My husband will be working in San Diego for 4 months and Sommerset is where his work booked his stay. The staff here are totally awesome, friendly and so willing to make sure you are comfortable. As for the noise that some reviews have complained about, when balcony doors are closed you really dont hear them.. If the balcony doors are open well its obvious you will hear the traffic but that is anywheres you stay. People have made it sound like the sirens are a constant since the hotel is right in front of the hospital. It is not constant, some days very few times, and as mentioned earlier if the doors are closed you barely hear it.
The location is great, right in the downtown area, perfect location to walk everywhere. All the stores you would need walking distance or very close by. Beautiful Balboa Park is nearby, my husband and I walk there almost every night wih our 3 small dogs.
We are here on a work trip but if we ever return to the area for pleasure it will definitely be a place we will stay again. I recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable stay.

Room Tip: We have a room with a separate bedroom so on an extended stay like ours it feels more like a small a...
