That place was great! Everything about it was great- the staff, rooms, bathrooms, location,....
you could definitely not by any chance be bored there.

Hostel Cat discriminates against anyone over age 30 and all American citizens. It is very noisy 24 hrs a day. The area is dangerous at night. The kitchen and bathrooms are filthy and disgusting. Staff is rude and careless.

With all the excellent reviews I found on Hostel Cat I didn't hesitate to book. But upon arrival I found my self very disappointed.
The hostel is located in a seedy part of San Diego, with a rehab centre just across the rd. It was 14blocks into town and a big walk past all the homeless people of San Diego.
Our room had no windows, and was incredibly stuffy, there was a fan but it was just blowing around the used air. The ventilation was also poor in the bathrooms, the shower rooms steamed up so bad i couldnt even dry myself and had to go out into the unisex bathroom area to change.
However the owner/operator was a sweet dude and we met some nice people.
But Its just not worth it, stay in town, there are plenty of hostels there.

Found this hostel by chance on hostelworld.com and luck was obviously on my side. From the ouside it looks a little more hostile than hostel but as soon as you step in the doors you feel instantly home. The rooms are spotless, the facilities are second to none and the staff are amazing. The appearance is somewhat street and it feels like you're part of an elite underground club which is the best part. Each night is themed (toga night/pub crawl/ tijuana tour) and every night is more fun than its predecesor. The staff accompany you in all the activities and make sure that everyone is enjoying themselves. This is the best hostel I have ever stayed in. It is relaxed and safe, clean and most of all - FUN. The atmosphere is CAT-aclysmic and i was so reluctant to leave. This hostel cannot be beaten for atmosphere, quality and all round excellence. I would recommend it to anyone who is in search of a good time at a reasonable price in a clean safe and amazingly fun environment. Go to this hostel and you will have the best time. What more can I say?
