“Very comfortable, very friendly”

The room was great! We have 3 sons, so the large fold-out couch found standard in the rooms was perfect. Exercise room was modern and well-maintained. The lobby area was actually a place that was fun to spend some time. Free breakfast was good. Fresh items, many choices, newspapers to read. Coffee wasn't great. My expectations were high because they advertise that they are brewing Starbucks. The lady at the front desk was so welcoming as we were checking in. She offered to show us around and reminded us that she would be there all night if we needed anything. Only thing missing was a pool, and that is only because we were travelling in November and their outdoor pool was closed for the season. We'll have to try again at a different time of the year.

“Great stay ends on a sour note”

We love this hotel, and try to stay here every time we make the 2 day trip from Colorado Springs to Kentucky. The price is definitely right - we paid $96 (with tax) for one night in a room with a king size bed and a queen size convertible couch for our 7 year old daughter. And the place is a step up from the Holiday Inn-type motels travelers often use if they can't make their trip in one day. It is always very clean and the rooms well-maintained. The continental-plus breakfast is always good and plentiful. We had a very nice room and a large flat screen TV that could be seen from our bed and our daughter's fold-out couch bed. Wireless internet was simple and high speed.

We got in tired from driving at about 8 pm on Saturday, November 26, 2011, made ourselves comfortable and watched TV before going to bed. We were having a great stay until we went down for breakfast in the morning. We misread the hours of operation and came in just as they were closing down. We apologized, and didn't ask for any special service - one nice young woman told us that we could go ahead and have some of whatever they hadn't yet put away. We didn't even ask for them to leave anything out for us, just took some cold cereal and bagels. But the rest of the staff gave us a nasty attitude and a distinct lack of graciousness. Especially the pretty young woman with long brown hair at the front desk, who was also helping to break down the breakfast area. She could hardly bring herself to smile at us, and when I told her (trying to be helpful) that the serve-yourself coffee pot was empty, she all but snarled at me that she "had another one right here." As we gulped down our breakfast, she would pass by while she was working and several times she gave us a dirty look. I am not imagining this! She made us feel quite unwelcome, not like paying guests, but like unwanted interlopers who should feel lucky she deigned to allow us in her hotel.

Hoping that the unhappy woman at the front desk finds another job by the time we come through town again - or that the manager reads TripAdvisor and gives her some training in what it means to be in the "hospitality business"!

“Holiday Peace and Quiet”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

Traveled to Topeka for a family holiday. The location of this hotel was perfect, not in the mall parking lot or behind the Taco Bell, close to the main shopping and eating area of town but in a quiet area. Our room was the perfect size for two. Very nice seating area, we had my parents up for a visit before meeting others and there was plenty of room. I found the entire hotel to be very clean. All employees were friendly and more than happy to assist you. Absolutely enjoyed visiting with Harley one evening while unwinding after a long two days of Thanksgiving cooking. No shuttle service is available, which my husband and I are used to, but not a deal breaker for us. Room service is also not available. They do have a kitchen but you must go down to the front desk to retrieve your order. This I find very inconvenient, luckily for me my husband could go down and bring up breakfast but for a woman by herself I would not like this.

“Nice but showing signs of age.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2011

This Hyatt is still nice -- mostly for its location near the highway and within a medical complex. Almost seemed like a college campus. The rooms are large and can sleep six comfortably. The bathroom is dark and small. We noticed cracked tiles and the bottom of the tub was dirty. Lots of wear to those areas. The entrance and breakfast area were pleasant. Breakfast was basic and not as good as something you might find at a Hampton Inn or even a modern La Quinta. Hyatt is just coming around to understanding that travellers' expectations have risen in that regard. Even budget chains are providing more choices. The staff seemed overwhelmed and couldn't keep the area stocked or cleaned. The doors to rooms are extremely loud when opened or closed -- making it difficult to rest if people are coming or going.

“Like this place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2011

Stay here frequently when I am in town on business. The Rooms are clean, the amenties nice and the overall experience is very good. That is except when Hill's Pet has a happy hour and take over the hotel lobby but it is still festive to walk into. The only complaint I have about this hotel is the way breakfast is set up and some of the staff. The staff is very nice but some of the dumbest people I have ever meet. They seem to know nothing about anything. Smiling, willing and able to help but usually unable to due to their lack of intelligence. But that is not all of the employees just a few of them that i have encountered. The only other complaint is that the breakfast is a bit confusing. They offer some staples included included in your stay but they do offer more and you can order it at the window but no one is ever around and the promotion of this is quite unclear other then a sign. I know this review sounds harsh and it is not intended to be, it is just truthful. Other then those petty things the hotel is lovely, clean, reasonable and a great place to stay when in town. I would recommend to anyone without hesitation.
