I stayed one night for business. I would rate the actual hotel a 3.5 but several factors went into the overall 3 rating. The interior of the hotel and rooms are in good shape, seems like it has been rennovated some time in the past few years. The furnishings, bedding and room were all in good shape. The room was large and the staff was helpful and friendly.
There was plenty of outlets to plug-in all your gagets, the flat Screen TV was large, the internet was very fast and consistent (no dropping) and the hotel was very clean.
The outside doesn't seem like it was rennovated but the hotel doesn't look bad from the outside. They charge $10/night for parking which is reasonable for downtown Boston but the hotel isn't in downtown, it is several miles away. The price of the actual room was good enough that the $10 is more than reasonable.
A couple of negatives that made me give the overall rating a 3. First, there was one person at the Desk and there was a substantial number of folks that needed to be checked in. He did a great job getting us all checked in as quickly as possible but it still took a while. I am not sure how busy the hotel was but they could have used a second person at the front desk.
There is no real restaurant onsite and or with-in walking distance. The onsite facility was a sandwhich shop, cafe type place that also had a couple of "dinner" like options such as buffalo wings, a burger, etc. The Cafe also had hot breakfast items but I skipped breakfast because the sandwhich I had at was not particularly good.
Doubletrees are a bit all over the place in terms of amenities and theme but this is the first one I have ever stayed at that didn't have a real restaurant onsite. My guess is this place was another brand before the rennovations and when the rennovations were completed they changed the branding to a Doubletree.
The heat was a little too loud and definitely louder than I would have expected. Also, it was hard to control the room not being too cold or too hot.
The hotel is convenient to the T like the other reviewers said but it was still about a mile. The hotel is also near the UMASS campas and the JFK Library. Unoess you want to eat at the cafe you will need to drive to find a restaurant. The area is a little confusing so get direction
I would give the hotel another shot if business calls for a visit right near by.
The business center had I think 3 new PCs and a laser printer or two. Te gym was a decent size too with a reasoanle amount of equipment and selectiom.
