“Unique, cool hotel in the heart of Boston”

My family of four was looking for a place to stay the week between Christmas and New Year's. We looked around at a bunch of places. The issue was, with two teens, we needed two separate, adjoining rooms (but two hotel rooms x three days adds up to a lot) or a suite somewhere. Marriot's Custom House was far and away out best option. The suite is super-spacious, with a longish hallway separating the central area from the bedroom. Everything was comfortable and clean and we loved the kitchenette. Beyond that, it's a really interesting, old space --a domed lobby, a clock tower, an interesting mezzanine level where you can have tea and look out over cobble-stoned streets. I have never stayed in a hotel like this. Very special! Close to Quincy Market, Boston Aquarium, but somehow you don't feel like you're in a tourist trap. The 'T" is a stone's throw away, as is a quickmart-type place, where you can basic stuff like a banana. We would definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor -- great views. We tried; I think they moslyt go to shareholders, but worth a s...

“Beautiful, Excellent Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

We love this hotel! It is always difficult as a family of 5 to find accommodations which will give us enough space. We love the set up of the rooms, one large space with a kitchenette and a living room with pull out sofa, a hallway where the bathroom is located then a bedroom with a separate door. So unusual to find a hotel with so much space right downtown! And the location...steps away from Quincy Market, and right across the street from the waterfront and museum. A short walk to the North End. My husband and kids loved going up to the observatory level (I skipped as I am afraid of heights!). There are only about 4 rooms on each level, there are times when we thought we were the only people staying here it was so quiet! Loved it here and would absolutely come again.

“Wow!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

Beautiful hotel. Warm, welcoming staff. Perfect location - adjacent to Quincy Market and a very short walk to North Station. Go up to the secret observatory deck - great views of Boston.

If possible, definitely do the Hotel Historical Tour. Karen the tour guide is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Gives a nice history of the hotel and Boston.

Constant reminders that it is a Time Share. Just ignore the sales pitches.

“Excellent Central Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

As others have said, this hotel has a wonderful central location. It is not a fancy hotel (don't expect Four Seasons), but there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. The staff are friendly and helpful, the rooms good sized and very clean. The views from the rooms are great but for an even better view, go to the observation tower on the ?29th floor where you have views in all 4 directions.

When we were there earlier this month, they serve free homemade cookies around 5pm, and warmed mulled cider - yummm

“Outstanding accommodations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

We loved the Marriott Custom House. The rooms are suites with federal period furniture and are impeccable. The staff is so accommodating. We did not have children on this trip, but if we did we would have liked their extra kid-friendly activities. A trip to the Boston Pops Holiday Show is a must in December. We loved the location -- subways are easy and the walking is terrific. Take the Freedom Trail right from the hotel. I will be back!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the city and choose a floor up high for the best views.
