“Mixed Bag”

After reading alot of these reviews and just spending 2 nights at the Parker House, I agree with all the pros and cons. My husband attended a conference here and I came along. It's an historic hotel and I got the feeling I was stepping back in time - the room and hallway gave me a 1940's feel. The rooms were adequate, bathroom was small, and there could have been (should have been!) another piece of furniture in the room to put a suitcase and other incidentals on. Rooms were clean, beds very comfortable, location is great, close to shopping and small restaurants. I felt safe walking around and saw many people strolling in the evening. We had a banquet dinner in the hotel, which was very good. The famous Parker House rolls were fluffy and delicious. The only real drawback for me was the noise level. Guests walking down the hallway, cleaning people chatting all morning in the hallway, and even a child staying a few rooms away from ours - you hear it all. And for some reason I couldn't turn on the blower on the heating unit as white noise. Overall, I had a nice stay, but had to overcome the issues with the room.

This hotel is 1 of the worst hotels in all of boston it is old dirty horrible service terrible service people loud elevators old building could not sleep 2 out of the 4 nights because of noise from 3 am until 7 am no need for a wake up call you'll be awake at 6 am from noise. There is a reason they have to give away their rooms on hotwire!!!!!!

“Nice enough hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

I booked two nights at the Omni Parker House using Hotwire. Now, using Hotwire I expect to not be put in the nicest/biggest room. However, Hotwire's guarantee tthat the room will sleep the indicated number of people to me means 1 queen or king bed or 2 full. Not so at the Omni Parker House, where they give you one full size bed. The Omni will tell you that a full size bed comfortably sleeps 2 people. I don't agree. They didn't give us the option to upgrade, but did say that MOST people would find this acceptable, along with a pointed glance at my mid-section, which I took to be a hint that I could stand to lose a few pounds. I let that one go. . . .

The lobby of the hotel is very nice and ornate; it's definitely more old school than modern, but it's very nice. The hallways were fine and the room itself, while dated, is clean and in good repair. We had a dresser, desk and full size bed and that took up most of the room; the room size was okay for us as we weren't there much, but if you wanted to lounge around in the room it might not be ideal. There is also a small closet. The bathroom is small but in good working order.

Valet parking was $42, but that's pretty much par for the course for hotels in downtown Boston. You don't really need a car staying here, though - it is very central and within 3 blocks of three subway lines. It's a great location.

We didn't eat at the restaurants, so I can't comment on those.

Our room was next to the ice machine (expected when booking via HotWire), but this ice machine seemed exceedingly loud and made noise 24/7, so if you book via regular means I would be sure to request that your room not be nearby. We also had an up close and personal view of the offices next door, meaning the blinds had to be closed at all times; you should also keep that in mind.

Also, if you book via HotWire you cannot take advantage of the loyalty program that allows free wi-fi etc., even if you area already a member.

The Omni Parker House is contracted to sell our Traditional room type. The verbiage that Hotwire relays to customers is stated as so and we do not allow Hotwire customers to upgrade to a Deluxe room type without a nominal fee. It does not state in your review whether you contacted our front desk to inquire about a room change, at that point our staff would have been more than happy to help. On behalf of the hotel, I apologize for your location in close proximity to the ice machine however, our staff would have been accomodating to a room change if requested.

Our Select Guest loyalty program includes a great deal of benefits for our guests. It is free to sign up which can be done at time of reservation or at check-in. It states in your review that you were not awarded the loyalty benefits during your stay even though you are a memeber, however, the premise of the program is for customers who book on OmniHotels.com. We encourage you to consider booking through our hotel booking engine on your next visit to Boston.

“Amazing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

I stayed at the Parker House for a couple of days while in Boston for a conference. I chose the Parker House because they offered an excellent online rate if you stay more than one night. So basically I chose it because of price, but after this experience, it will be my first choice for accommodations in Boston no matter what the price!

All of the staff were extremely nice and helpful and the concierge service was excellent. The room I booked really seemed kind of small from the pictures online, but in actuality, it was far from it. Very large with a nice sized desk and all of the usual ammenities. Wifi costs $10/day but if you sign up with Omni, which is free to do, the wifi is free, and you get a bunch of other things courtesy of the hotel. So, that's a no brainer.

My only gripe is parking. There isn't any unless you pay the $42/day for hotel parking, which is a little steep for me, but I did it anyway. That being said, the service was excellent and I didn't have to mess around with parking my car, I don't parallel very well, so that was kind of a relief.

Location is super. I could walk to the park and to some terrific restaurants.

All in all a really good experience.

“Good location, comfy beds but lousy management & tacky, cheap attitude”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

Our plane was delayed so we needed to find something urgently with no opportunity to research. We chose the Omni Parker for location and what seemed like a reasonable price. But pretty much everything was terrible.

The room we were given was OK sizewise but the walls were paper thin and we could hear everything from next door. It was also smelly. We asked to change because of the noise and were warned a different room would have no view. The person (who later turned out to be the front desk manager) told me that even though the hotel was not full he had no way of telling whether the next door room was occupied. What ? How else would they know if a room was available to be taken ? What we were not told was that the new room was tiny, barely room for two of us to move around at the same time, ditto the bathroom. We requested a discount and were told, very offhandedly by the "manager", that the rooms were the same category and he had no authority to reduce the price. We were not told about the free wi-fi if we signed up to the loyalty programme. We discovered this ourselves by calling the front desk to enquire about the cost and duly signed up. Despite this there were two hefty charges on our bill when we came to check out which the (by then new and charming) girl on the desk agreed to remove. The corridors were unattractive and looked like municipal offices, cheap after the flashiness of the entrance hall. We were woken up at 830 am by housekeeping to see if the room was vacant for cleaning. The valet parking was extortionate. All the staff, doormen and porters hovered menacingly for tips at every opportuinity. The hotel just oozed bad management.
