“Beautiful house and great hosts!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2010

3 friends from the UK stayed here mid December for 2 nights en route to Vermont. The rooms are beautiful, very cosy and the beds real comfy
Kathy and John are great hosts who were only to pleased to advise us of things to do and see in this great city
The breakfast was hearty and cooked really well and plenty of it
We would thoroughly recommend this Guest house to anyone wanting to stay in Boston

“Perfect place to stay, nicely located, enchanting, clean and fun”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2010

My wife and me stayed at Nolan's B&B for 6 days. It is a beautiful victorian house with nice decorated rooms and extremely comfortable beds. But the main attraction is not only the place. John, the landlord is a real, and amusing asset to the stay. He informs you with his witty and always politically correct humour about touristic things to see, shops to get bargains, excellent restaurants and the best ways to get to all these places. Just ask him to sit down at the breakfast table for a cup of tea and you will enjoy. The breakfast table is lovely arranged with diverse fresh cut fruits, cereals, tea or coffee, newspapers (not really needed with John there), toast and homemade cakes.

“A welcome change from faceless hotels”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2010

I was nervous arriving in Boston after a long flight from New Zealand but i need not have worried. The welcome I received at Nolan house was warm but unintrusive and the freindly hosts did all they could to ensure my stay was hassle free. Comfortable rooms fitted out in decor to suit the age and character of house added to the charm, with the aircon much appreciated as I arrived during a record breaking heatwave. Very close to shops and a wide range of eatieries, and a longer but easy stroll down to the waterfront and into the main city (buses and train station was also nearby but I prefer to walk) , it made a perfect place to stay while I attended a conference at one of the larger hotels - I was happy to give up the predictability of a characterless hotel chain for the privilege of sharing this wonderful house.

“Really nice and personal B&B - had a very pleasant stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 July 2010

The first building I entered in Boston was one of the big hotels to meet a friend and after this I was really glad not to stay in a place where the lobby feels a bit like the airport I just came from. Instead I stayed in a small family run B&B that certainly has its own character (and so do the hosts), and really enjoyed it!
Unlike others I found the location (a 20 min walk away from the city center) very pleasant - the neighborhood feels quite relaxed, quiet and safe and if you really need to get to the city center quickly simply take a taxi or bus (haven't tested the latter but John will give you good advice on that). In general I liked John's believe in his guests' ability to find their way through the city and to give useful advice.
The bed was very comfortable and my sleep was only slightly disturbed on one day by the song of some very enthusistic bird sitting on the tree in front of the window (yes, there are trees - you won't find this at the 10th floor in a big hotel). The breakfast very much suited my taste and gave me a good start into the day (I didn't have a cooked breakfast since I wanted to eat too early in the morning, but didn't fancy this anyway). However, this may be a bit of a problem for some visitors - if you prefer rather savoury stuff and want to have a cooked breakfast you can't really start your day as early as some business responsibilities may require. Perhaps mention your preferences beforehand if you don't fancy cereals and toast with jam.
The shared bathroom can cause a bit of an inconvinience at times but John makes every effort to minimize that and the whole place is clean and well looked after. Living in UK I found the Victorian style of this B&B a bit strange but rather amusing - you will certainly not find this in any of the large hotels!
Two more advantages I appreciated very much and should not forget to mention were the free wireless internet access and Kathy's very quick response to e-mails (I had some difficulties with the latter in the past with B&Bs where sometimes nobody seemed to check and reply to mails frequently, but you will not come across such problems with the Nolan House).
So altogether a great place to stay, particularly if you find the big hotels rather expensive and prefer some individual place that certainly has its own character. I will definitely stay here again if I ever come back to Boston.
