We, 2 adults and one 12 year old daugther stayed during the Boston Marathon. This wasn’t our first choice, just the possible one taken into account availabilities and costs during that time of the year.
The house itself looks quite run down from the outside. We arrived at night and the Taxi driver waited for us to confirm if we were at the right place, even without any request from our side. In spite of what was arranged beforehand we didn’t get a bathroom just for our selves! This was a clear stated request from our side which was not met without any explanation.
The room was ok, nothing fancy with a quite old fashioned touch but ok. The size was not amazing but manageable. The location is ok for public transport, but definitely not suitable to walk into town.
Breakfast is fine, with the remark that it is served at 8h30 or 9h, and if you happen to be 15 min. late you get your cold toast! This didn’t happen to us, but to couple that stayed at time we did.
The worst part of our experience has to do with a Moleskin we forgot at the Nolan House. After Boston we went on to travel further for another week, so we noticed it was missing when we got back home in Portugal. We wrote to all the places we stayed and all told us they didn’t find it.
Our stay was between the 14th and 18th of April. On the 20st of May we got the information that they found the book, requesting the address and telling they would let us know the amount for the postage.
I told the address on the 23rd of May. As I didn’t got any answer I inquired one week later, on the 30th of May. I was told that due to health issues (sick in hospital) they were unable to answer sooner. Again time passed and on the 8th of June I got another message asking for 20 USD for handling (???) and postage. As the Moleskin contains quite useful information, I paid the amount via Paypal.
All in all it took over two months to receive the book. I’m quite aware that is our fault to let it there in the first place and that we can be regretful for them to find it and to care enough to send it. On the other side, after staying in a B&B for 4 nights, paying over 400 USD I would expect the gesture of sending the book, point.
