“Similar to a bed and breakfast but better.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

We stayed here because we have family that lives in an adjacent building. It was out of the hustle and bustle, at the end of the Commercial Wharf. You feel like you are a visitor at someones home rather than a hotel. The common areas have a gym, tvs, billiard, card tables, books, comfy leather sofas, and self serve coffee and tea. Rene, the handyman our grounds keeper was helpful and courteous. The rooms are well equipped and spacious. We stayed in two separate ones. They are all different. They actually only have 10 rooms total. The place is quiet and has a gorgeous view of the harbour. New Years Eve was a hit a the fireworks barge it's literally outside. Best view and not as crowded as the park.
If I was to give one gripe it would be the thermostat on the heater want working and I almost suffocated my first night there. They promptly turned it off and problem solved. I want to say they are in the process of fixing that. They are closing for renovations this year. Not really sure for what since everything is new. Good news is, it can only get better.

“Absolute horror story, new mgmt, stay away”

This used to be my favorite place to stay. Paddy the old manager would give a heart and soul to make you welcome but she is gone and so is anything positive about this location. We arrived in Nov for a long weekend. Our excitement was quickly diminished by a receptionist who couldn't be bothered to check us in. Ok, not the biggest deal. Got to the room and looked ok until we sat at the table and I quickly discovered a creepy little crawler (earwig) making its way up my sock. On closer inspection the little fellows were everywhere, legs of tables, window sills & bathroom. I ran down to a receptionist (Ms. I hate being here), who blatantly stated that they are aware of the problem and this year has been unusual. We got moved to another room on top that was supposedly better. Granted fewer of the fellows but bathroom smelled like someone had slaughtered a goat and left the remains to rot for a while. It was literally a test of endurance and time to use it. After we came back from dinner that night and tried to use it, it fully clogged up. No maintenance person was in sight but thankfully it didn't overflow, so we were able to sleep in the room (although gas masks would have been welcome). The next day we had decided that we had too many better options to stay there so we moved out. Here is the kicker!! About 20 days later my husband noticed that the rate he was given ($240+tax/night) was not what was charged in his card, instead he had a $325 + tax for our fabulous smelly, bug-infested charming time at BYH. He called them and after a good 45 min negotiation they said they would change it. FF 30 days later, no change, he calls again, goes through the spiel, they say they would change it. After another 2 weeks, he calls and essentially threatens to report them to BBB if they don't change it. ~ 15 days later they finally issue the refund....Granted none of these are the end of the world, if you are looking for a pleasant, friendly & elegant Boston retreat with somewhat polite personnel, you might want to skip this one, it’s not what it used to be and simply not worth the hassle/attitude of staff.

“Don't miss this experience!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2011

Having grown up on the water in the Boston area, I'm not easily impressed by "water view" accommodations - I was BEYOND impressed by this magical gem perched at the end of Commercial Wharf. My husband and I stayed in the penthouse for our 22 anniversary weekend and were blissfully enveloped by the charm, beauty, and comfort of this incredible inn. Whether sitting on our deck and watching the bustling activity of Boston harbor while sipping our morning coffee or relaxing in our spacious and extraordinarily comfy room, this was the far and away the finest and most uplifting abode we've ever stayed in - bar none. Do yourself a HUGE favor and find your way to this wonderful experience!

Room Tip: Go for the penthouse!!

“Worth the price for the water views”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 September 2011

Husband and I came here over labor day weekend. I had reserved one of the king rooms with the deck. This is a GREAT place to stay if you like to sit out and watch all the boat activity and the planes flying in and out of Logan. First off, if you fly into Boston, definitely take the water taxi to the Inn. It's only $10/pp and well worth it assuming the weather's good. It takes you right to the steps at the bottom of the inn. We arrived early in the day and they were nice enough to let us into the room early. I don't think a lot of people know about this place; They have maybe 7 or 8 rooms (?) and there was only one other person there. As a result they delivered the continental b'fast to our room and left it outside the door. It was a nice mixture of cereals, fruit, warm muffins and juice, plenty of food. They also put on a lunch one of the days, but we missed that due to wandering about the city.

We only had one recurring hiccup-the room a/c wasn't functioning right and our first night it ran the whole night which was a bit noisy, then it probably froze up and as a result didn't cool at all the next day so they moved us to the other king/deck room. Unfortunately the a/c issues continued and that room got hot as well. Since it was a holiday weekend it was hard to find somebody to fix it, but someone did come on Labor Day. They were good enough to move us to another room, and then good enough to discount our price of the room due to the inconvenience.

The room was quite spacious and the decor was pretty. Lots of light due to having the doors to the deck.

The people who worked there were all very nice and accomodating. We loved having a deck and sitting out watching all the boats and yachts and harbor traffic while we ate our Mike's pastries and drank some wine. We'd stay there again if ever in the city.

Room Tip: we enjoyed the view a bit better from the room facing the water/downtown side -could see the citysca...

“See Boston from the water”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 June 2011

We rented the top floor room with three views of the harbor. Bed was very good. Very quiet. Can walk to the Quincy Market area. Easy to exit the city when your moving on.
Front office staff was very helpfull. We were going to take the GreenLline to get to the Red Sox game. She told us to get a cab. She was correct.

Best $400 room in town. Has internet sevice and terminal for the guest to use. We npow live in Key West but will stay here the next time we are in town
