“The Bulfinch is a big disappointment.”

I wanted to stay near Mass General Hospital and was told the hotel has a shuttle to the hospital, so I booked a room. They do have a shuttle - for $10 one way. They have Internet too, but no wifi in rooms. Only in the cramped hallway and the restaurant where I was told Sorry, I'd have to leave at 5 pm because reservations were coming in. So I went back to my room with my iPad. I asked for an extra blanket for the bed and was brought a lumpy fake feather quilt that was not folded and was Still Wet from apparently being washed! The bed did not have a mattress pad. The furniture is chipped. Actually, I left and went home to Maine without spending the night. They did apologize and did not charge my credit card. The Bulfinch wants to be a boutique hotel but actually is a crash pad for 20-somethings attending Celtics games next door. Don't make the mistake I did.

“most reviewers comments are accurate. Small rooms and mold problem.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

I read several reviews and since we were basically looking for a place to crash after a Celtics game, I thought it would be fine. This is great location, especially for going to TD Garden. We choose the self serve parking option, which worked well for me. Our family of four slept in a room that bearly could contain the two double beds. There were three towels for us. There was a very heavy musty smell in the room, I suspect mold in the carpet. We were too tired to start asking for a different room, so we tuffed it out, smell and all.

Room Tip: we were in room 404. I don't know if the mold / mildew problem is through out, but I read about...

Thank you for your review of our property and for mentioning our close proximity to the Garden. We, too, love how close we are to exciting venues in Boston and robust districts, including the North End, Fanueil Hall, and Beacon Hill. We have addressed the issue in 404 and look forward to welcoming you back in the future where we can place you in a room that’s more to your liking. Thank you.

“The rooms are small and not maintained.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012 via mobile

The rooms are very small at the Bulfinch. I was most surprised when I entered the room to see how dirty the walls are and the condition of the walls. There are cracks in the drywall that run floor to ceiling.

The furniture is badly damaged with large scratches and holes in it. The mattress is very uncomfortable and cheap. The sheets feel like sand paper.

Overall for a boutique hotel in Boston, I am supremely unimpressed. I will not return.

“Convenient to TD Garden but not great”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

This hotel is in a convenient location if you are attending an event at the TD Garden. Like others have said, you can walk there in 5 minutes. There are also a few places to eat within walking distance. However, if you are going to Boston on vacation or plan to stay in town more than one night, you will be disappointed if you expect the hotel to look anything like the pictures on the website. The lobby is small and dated, as are the rooms. The TV's are not flat screens. The blanket on the bed is only slightly heavier than a sheet - no down comforters. When someone is talking in the hall, it sounds like they are in your room. There doesn't seem to be any soundproofing in the door. We were kept up until 2 am - we'd fall asleep, then another group of people would come down the hall, waking us up. This review is not meant to bash the hotel - it was inexpensive and served the purpose of giving us a place to sleep instead of driving home late after a Celtics game. However, we would not stay here again. Just wanted to give a reasonable review so that people know what to expect.

“great hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

im not sure why anyone would give a bad review, this was more than fine. maybe different rooms are constructed differently? iduno, but its really annoying when you are trying to book a trip and you have these off the wall bad reviews of good places to stay. so take it from me its a good hotel. room was very nice, nicer than most places i stay, marble bathroom even. TV worked better than most hotels. We were going to TD garden so SUPER convenient, and yes there is some nightlife around this place even tho the location is awkward. only bad parts i would say is that the hallway noise can get to the room very easily so possibly loud if guests are noisey, but once ppl are in their rooms i didnt notice any noise. And also the views can be not awesome considering the wierd section of town its in but its not that big of a deal. And like i said its kind of a desolate area of town but somehow there are bars and clubs in this area if thats your thing. cabs were easy to get. If you are going to something at the TD center is hands down the best place to stay.
