“Do not stay here”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

I was put up here while the guest of an organization in the Jamaica Plain area. There are no hotels around here, so this is really the only option. That might be one reason these people do not go out of their way to provide much in the way of service. But, first let me say that Dave, one of the proprietors is very nice and sweet.

But, the rooms are terrible and worn. One of my electrical outlets was smashed. The fan in the bathroom is LOUD and had no cover. The small shower stall was mildewy and was patched here and there in a sloppy fashion. The desk chair was so worn as to be gross. The bathtowels had brown and yellow stains. And the "drapes" were dusty and stained.

Also, this is a B&B, but they don't begin to serve breakfast until 7:30am! For most people on business, the workday starts about then. And if one has to get to meetings in the area, one is certainly on the road before then. So, I missed out on the breakfasts. One morning, I did have an opportunity to start by day a little later, but even by 8am there was no one around to serve breakfast.

I realize that most people in the world now have cell phones, but does that excuse not having phones in the rooms?

And, the TV service is bad. No CNN, no ESPN. Just a crapload of local garbage stations (with the exception of PBS).

Finally, the wireless internet service totally sucks. I could get about 5 min of reasonable connection before it would crap out. When I could get on, pages would take several minutes to load. Other times, nothing. I think if more than one guest, or the proprietor, is online, there is not enough bandwidth for other users. So, if you are here on business, forget using the internet unless you have 4G.

So, no TV, no internet, no phone, no reason to stay here.

I would not stay here if you have other options.

Room Tip: There are no good rooms. All are worn and "tired."

“nice band b you would miss, but dont”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

we were at the Taylor B and B for the halloween in 2010, this is a place that is across a beautiful park, if you walk 2 blocks there are several places to eat. the price is good and if you're going to Salem this is a great place to be, it's about half an hour from the airport and about the same distance from the Boston Harbor. which is where we took a ferry to Salem. i recommend this instead of the train, it's more scenic. the actual B and B was very nice and clean, breakfast was also very nice and cozy.

Room Tip: we took taxis everywhere and it was expensive to do that, so i would say rent a car to drive around

“Wonderful accomodations, accomodating hosts, great location!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

Taylor House Bed and Breakfast is just outside of downtown Boston in Jamaica Plain, a quiet neighborhood of beautiful historic homes. It's a short cab ride or slightly longer walk from the "T" station. Down the street from the Taylor House is lovely pond with walking trails, and boat rentals in season. There are also shops and great restaurants nearby. Much to our surprise our stay included a private sitting room with a working fireplace! One of the owners kindly supplied a paper "log" for a lovely 3 hr. fire that we enjoyed in the evening with family who visited us there. Our 2 rooms were tastefully furnished and very comfortable. I especially enjoyed a nice long hot soak in the bathtub! In the morning, there was a delicious and ample buffet breakfast of: coffee, juice, fruit, granola, yogurt, a choice of breads for toast with jam, apple bread pudding, and an egg and meat dish. We will definitely stay there again!

Room Tip: There are 12 rooms in 2 buildings that are side by side. The building we stayed in was on a quiet si...

“A Friendly Place, Home Cooking and Great Neighbouhood”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2011

The Taylor House B & B is in Jamaica Plain about 25mins on the T (including walking) from Downtown Boston.

If there was a negative it was the small TV but that’s being really picky.

Our room was vey spacious, breakfast was home cooked with something different every day and delicious. The guys who ran the place couldn't be more helpful giving us lifts to the T when we needed. It's a very old fashioned place with abundance of character and I wouldn't hesitate to stay again if ever I was in Boston.

The neighbourhood has a few restaurants and a couple of "Irish" bars. We only used the Galway House where we were treated like locals. Very good plentiful food at a reasonable price as was the ale. The same in Downtown would be double the cost.

For sure I wouldn’t look elsewhere.

“A bit quirky and well worth it”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2011

Taylor House is a big early 19c house in a very pleasant suburb of Boston (Jamaica Plain) about 30 mins from city centre by subway (inc 10 mins walk). There is a very arty feel about the placed, each of the rooms are decorated in a very individualistic way and there is a real sense of character about the whole place. The rooms are pretty large, and downstairs feels a bit cavernous and empty as they use the reception rooms for musical recitals and wedding parties etc. They could do with putting up some decent curtains to fit with hte ambience of the place, but otherwise very happy with it. Particularly noteworthy are the breakfasts, some great home cooking from Darryl and a good quality continental spread will set you up for the day
