“Location the only positive, absolutely no security”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 December 2011

My partner and I stayed here recently, and this place has several flaws.

At first glance the room looked ok, but on closer inspection we noticed window sills rotting and paint peeling from the walls, cupboard draws that fall out when you open them and dirty bedsheets and carpet. In reality, the room was completely disgusting.

The worst aspect of this place is the complete lack of security at night.
Our room was the one directly behind the office, but this means nothing when there is no one there after business hours, and the front door is left completely unlocked.
On our last night, people appeared to break into our room from the back window, and after we tried repeated to call the contact number left on the door without response, we left out of concern for our own safety. When I finally made contact with the manager he was totally unhelpful and couldn't have cared less about our concerns.

We strongly advise everyone to stay away from this place, unless you want to feel completely unsafe at night.

Hello,

We would like to comment on the review due to several reasons.

First of all, we would like to mention that different rooms within our properties are being upgraded every year -- and the one stayed by you is one of the newly refurbished room. The floor has a hardwood flooring with a new carpet with burgundy walls (pictures available on our website).

We also believe that the claim of someone "breaking in" from the window is absurd. The window is 25 feet off the ground, while the front door/back door remains locked at night with an evening manager on duty at a phone call away. Additionally, we have never had burglary in our rooms over the past 20 years of our business.

It is unfortunate for us that our rooms did not meet your standards. We apologize that you were not satisfied with what happened at our property.. We are, and will continuously strive to provide a more comfortable accommodation for our customers.

“Quaint and charming brownstone house, convenient location, comfortable”

Stayed here with friends while attending a convention at Hynes. Chose it online for its convenient location (1 block away from Prudential Center, a convenience store and T station), listed amenities and relatively lower price than most hotels in neighborhood. It's actually not just 1 house but rather, a series of row brownstone townhouses with several rooms in the very quaint and charming Back Bay district. Simple amenities but comfortable enough, a bit dated, could use some refurbishing, certainly not new or 5 star class but clean and decent. Cellphone and Wi-fi signals were strong. Staff was courteous, friendly and very helpful, specially in bringing our luggage up and down the crickety wooden stairs. I'd say good value for money in this area!

Fantastic location.
However, bedroom was more like a student hall as it was rundown and had very dirty carpet.
Had a room close to main door which was quite noise.
They could defenitely refurb to offer the basic standards.

“Great Location”

Great location for sight seeing in the Back Bay of Boston. The rooms are very simple so don't expect much even though the price is what close to what you might pay for a more posh hotel.

“Comfortable hotel, good location.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2011

The rooms at this hotel are more like separate apartments so it is really good if you want a bit more privacy/independence. Our room (which I think was a medium suite) had a seating area, dining area, kitchen and massive bed. We were in the building on St Stephen's Street and we heard very little noise from the other rooms. The surrounding area was residential and really nice, quiet and felt safe. It was also near to shops (including the Prudential Centre) and two subway stations. Having looked around we found this hotel to be cheaper than a lot of others and, based on the quality of the room and the surrounding area, I think it is good value.
