“Please sir... may I have some more?”
First of all, the whirlpool tub fills from a spigot located in the ceiling.
As if a column of water dropping from the ceiling isn't enough, lights twinkle beneath a glass-tiled, heated bathroom floor, and a rain shower head with an outflow of tropical dimension promises to soothe well-traveled muscles and wash away any doubts of having made any mistakes in choosing stay at the 1900 Inn on Montford.
The house is kept in good order, its walls covered with interesting, engaging artwork, and the rooms furnished very sumptuously with a tasteful blend of styles both contemporary and antique. Its keeper, Lynn, is very charming, friendly, approachable, social, and funny.
My wife and I stayed in the Fitzgerald room, which is upstairs in the main house (there are rooms in the carriage house, too). The room is dominated by a king bed, a gas fireplace, and an obscenely large flat-screen TV. The bathroom sink is in the room - odd, but still OK.
The bathroom, as described above, is nearly beyond words. It is an experience that will not likely be forgotten. There is not a fan (that we could find) in the bathroom, so the humidity can get out of control in short order if the rain shower is running hot.
The bed was firm (my preference) and there were (I think) about six pillows of varying plushness to choose from as well, although we brought our own - as we always do when we travel. The sheets are clean and white, with enough covers and blankets to keep an eskimo warm.
The fireplace adds much ambiance, but running it on high for more than a half hour heats the room up considerably, so I would recommend setting it on low (it has a remote control) - otherwise you might have to sleep with the windows open and just a sheet over you as we did (this was in January, too). Just saying that you needn't worry about being too cold. FYI, the old windows work well, but one of them needs propped up with propping sticks located on the windowsill.
We don't watch a whole lot of TV, but the TV is hooked up to DirectTV, which we are unused to - so it took some adjustment to figure out how to work it. Still, in spite of the array of channels offered, my beliefs that the entertainment value of television peaked in the mid-eighties were once again supported. Instead, I looked through a couple of books from the enviable collection of art and travel books occupying the shelves downstairs.
In the mornings, a bag with two travel-mugs of coffee is hung on the outside door knob - a very good presentation; good coffee as well. Breakfast is highly recommended and kept us both satisfied all morning. To go into detail about the breakfast would be exhausting,so It's best left as a surprise.
To end, I just have to say that we have stayed at many, many B&B's - and this once has come to be a frontrunner in my opinion. It's convenient to downtown, it's comfortable, it's clean, it's interesting, the staff is friendly, and overall - we were just treated very, very decently. It costs a bit more than other places, but here you know where those extra dollars went to.
