“ladies "retreat"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2011

My friends and I had a restful enlighted weekend at Compassionate Expressions. The accommodations were perfect, the views spectacular with the leaves in full autumn transition.The Hot Tub, which included a CD player was perfect for a cold autumn night. I had never experienced energy healing and was amazed at how I felt afterwards. Reva lead several group meditations, a new experience for some. I have been meditating daily since returning home and finding myself calmer, more centered. I know I will return in the future for more healing.Thank you Reva!

“Mountain wedding”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

The brides family who are from Asheville picked this venue for the wedding of their daughter and our son. We wanted an outdoor setting for a small wedding that had resources for the rehersal dinner, reception and dance, all after 5pm.

This venue is relaxed and comfy, perfect for our families. Since we were from out of state and were doing the rehersal dinner and reception, it helped that our side of the family could stay onsite.

The value, service, views and the pavillion were the outstanding features but everything was great!

Specifics;
An unexpected cold front came through the area so the innkeeper purchased two propane heaters that made the night activities at the pavillion more comfortable.

Reva and Lenora were available for problem solving such as a platform for the harp and extra irons for the table cloths.

There was plenty of room outside for games like bocce ball and bean toss.

There was a dressing room by the pavillion for the Bride to do last minute adjustments.

They had plenty of tables and chairs for a party of 100.

Advice;
The Inn is 30 minutes away from a grocery store so pre-planning is key
Will need large ice chest to keep extra cold trays cold and a way to keep hot trays hot. The ovens are in the cabins and can hold a couple of pans each for warming.

We would whole heartedly recommend this location for a seclued, small to medium size celebration or small reunion of any kind.

Room Tip: The 2 cabins are across the driveway from the Inn and would be perfect for two couples with children...

“Probably just what you need”

I found Compassionate Expressions while searching for mountain cabins for a solo weekend to get away this summer. I had never been to Asheville and although I wanted to see downtown, I mainly wanted to get away. CE was exactly what I wanted, and their healing services are wonderful. Reva's energy healing was amazing, and she really knows what she's doing. I had already had some experience with this type of thing, but not quite like hers. I highly recommend it. You tune up your car, right? Well, tune up your energy! She is open to discussing things but will also let you have your space. I also tried a past life regression, as I had been wanting to try one out for awhile (although a little skeptical-it's hit or miss) and the price was very good in a package. I left feeling like a weight had been lifted and I got the rest I wanted. I stayed in the upstairs room, and it was clean and cozy with everything I needed in the kitchen.

Just for consideration, this is a large area of land but the actual inn area is small- 2 buildings and the patio area. The stream is near the driveway and you can go hiking a little bit but there's not really trails. It is a good drive from Asheville, maybe 35 minutes (if you can follow directions, unlike me :P). So it's not ideal if you want to pop in and out of Asheville proper, especially at night, I would imagine. It seemed like there was plenty of stuff to do more or less nearby, though. It was fabulous for what I wanted and they made me feel welcome and taken care of. I definitely hope to use their services again in the future!

“a great country living retreat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2010

I have visited Compassionate Expressions with my two children (who are now 8 years old) for the past three years. It is one of my children's favorite things to do in the summer. It is wonderful for them to experience country living. We try to go when local blueberry picking is at its peak. They also enjoy the nearby gem mining.

We have found Reva and Lenora to be very friendly, helpful and knowledgable about the area. We love going to the hot tub and I have had healings with Reva and have found her to be incredibly insightful (another reason I like to go back). I have also been happy with the massage services. The kids love feeding the goats and playing with the dogs. The view is gorgeous and there is a lot of area for the kids to explore. There is a patio overlooking the valley and it is nice to end the day by relaxing with a glass of wine while watching the kids play with the animals.

This is not for someone looking for exciting night life. It is really a country retreat. We live in a city and I love that I can take my kids there and expose them to a slower pace life that also has beautiful scenery. Asheville is not very far away if you do want to experience a neat city though.

I have always found the accommodations to be clean and comfortable.

“Inconsiderate Expressions”

Aside from the 20 minutes of windy roads upon arrival we were greeted with "Don't mind Reva, she's in a bad mood" and this set the tone for the next two days, the views were gorgeous and the inn was extremely clean, but although they said the walls were completely sound proof we heard pounding upstairs, like someone was fighting and there was a note on the door to be quiet during the healings. All of this though, seemed okay until I got a call and found out I had to be back home sooner than I had thought, I was hoping I could work something out with Reva but she wasn't very understanding and charged us full price for a day we didn't even stay for. I understand this is how they make a living, but emergencies happen, and 90$ is a lot to charge for nothing. The lack of cell-phone reception made it very difficult to be reached by family, they have one phone inside their home/office you could use if you ask, but it's not very practical. And driving at night is not highly recommended it was very dangerous from my experience.

If you're looking for a place to stay nestled in the mountains in complete isolation from the world around you and are serious about healing, then this is the place for you, but if you want to explore the city and the mountains you're better of just staying a hotel closer to the city, and visiting the mountains during the day.

It greatly saddens me when a guest leaves my Mountain Inn & Healing Sanctuary unhappy. This is the antithesis of my intention. Over 10 years, I have welcomed complete strangers onto my 40-acre mountain property (who I then, regard as my “other family”) with the sole purpose of sharing a beautiful quiet wildlife habitat and private retreat for healing and renewal. I believe I have succeeded in doing this based upon the feedback I receive from my guests, their kind referrals and witnessing many of them returning each year. However, I have also learned in this business, it is impossible to please everyone.

Every once-in-a-while, we get a guest like this one, who makes a reservation and perhaps isn't the best match for what we offer. I am not sure why he booked with us because our website clearly states we offer a low stimulus environment and are located 30-minutes from Asheville in the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains.

The real issue, with this particular guest, was he was angry that I enforced our “Early Departure Policy” (also stated on our website and mentioned in his confirmation). On the third day of his stay (and over 1.5 hours after our designated checkout time) he suddenly announced he was leaving and wanted his money back for that day. This not only fell under our “Early Departure Policy” but also left me no time to rebook his room for that same day.

I want to clarify we do have a phone available in the Main Inn 24/7 for guests (with free US phone calls) as some cell phone plans don’t work well in these mountains. In regards, to his personal slander, I find it interesting that he turned “I was tired” into a “bad mood” (the day of his arrival, I had a full day of giving healings so I had my associate greet him). I personally had no contact with him until the last day of his stay.

For any of you who read this, if you love Mother Nature and feeling connected to Spirit in a beautiful setting with quality healing spa services available…I warmly invite you to experience Compassionate Expressions Mountain Inn & Healing Sanctuary. I trust you will have a very different experience than this guest.

Warmly, Reva
