“Crowne Plaza??Not really”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

I am presently staying in this hotel as I write this. The rooms have been renovated but not completely to a Crowne Plaza standard. This hotel is an old building that they have tried to renovate but it appears that the hotel is trying to save money by cutting corners. For example, there are nice granite counter tops in bathroom supported by wood (probably the original) with several layers of paint on them to cover up the old paint used on them throughout the years.

The rooms are clean and fine if you are not expecting Crowne Plaza standards. However, the walls are thin, there is noise from the floors above and the lights in the room give the feel of an office. The room smells like that of an old man's cologne. On a positive note: the beds are comfortable.

They allow dogs in this hotel. With the thin walls, you are sure to hear them bark.

Not really a place to stay with kids during the winter. You must drive or walk outside to use the pool facilities at the new Asheville Racquet Club.

Thank you so much for your recent feedback regarding your stay at the Crowne Plaza Resort. This resort has a phenomenal location and history in Asheville having been both a Hilton and Holiday Inn resort throughout the years, and since transitioning to a Crowne Plaza a few years ago, management has been working on a variery of enhancements to the property. We are fortunate to have many things that other Crowne Plazas do not have such as a zipline course, golf course, fitness complex, and full service spa, but recognize that there are always areas to further improve the property. Some of the issues you brought to our attention such as lighting and hallway noise are currently being addressed by management and I will be sure to pass along all of your comments to the appropriate department so we can continue to better our resort. I appreciate your feedback and hope to see you again.

“Back in time - but not in a good way”

We recently stayed at the Crowne Plaza in Asheville, what an experience and I don't mean good.
Noisy, dirty, old and completely uninterested in their customers.
We are Platinum card holders with ICG and they didn't care at all, we didn't get anything that we had pre booked, not even the right room standard.
Avoid like the plague, oh and by the way it is another franchised one, ICG really do need to check them more closely, they give them their brand to maintain not to destroy.

Room Tip: Choose a different hotel to get a good room

I am very sorry you had such an unpleasant experience at our resort last month. The noise you encoutered during your stay was due to the 800 person swing dancing convention that has been with us for the past five years. We do our very best to ensure that all guests have a pleasant experience with us whether they are with a group or not and we had security on duty throughout the week they were here to control any noise issues. Even though you recieved the King size bed that you requested and were placed in an area away from the main part of the group, I apologize for any disturbances you had to deal with. If you had notified management at the time of the issue, I assure you it would have been dealt with promptly. In regards to our hotel being an older property, you are absolutly correct. The resort was originally opened in the 1970's as a Hilton, but in the last year we have added a world class fitness complex, full service spa, on propety zip line course, and by the fall of 2012 we will have a year around ice skating rink. Inside the hotel since you have departed we have begun rennovations in our hallways by installing new lighting and carpeting, and have just completed installing a brand new high speed wireless internet system. We take great pride in being a part of the IHG hotel group and are inspected at least once a year to ensure that we are up to the high IHG standards. Again I apologize for the trouble you encoutered during your stay, and I hope that you will give us another chance in the future.

“Probably used to be nice, now dirty and creepy”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012 via mobile

Trash and wet clothes in hallways, carpets stained, hair in bed. AC/heat unit very old and loud. Had to use earplugs to sleep as other tenants dogs were barking and people talking in hallways till 4am. Overall experience will make you feel dirty.

I apologize for the unfortunate experiences you encountered during your visit to our resort, and I assure you what you had to deal with is not the norm for our hotel. I'm not sure when you stayed with us, but judgining by the timing of your review, I assume that you were here during the last week of December into January during the 800+ person swing dancing convention. They dance almost 24 hours a day for an entire week and occupy about 95% of our available rooms. Though handling a group of this size and energy level is quite an undertaking, we understand that there are other guests in the hotel and try our very best to maintain an enjoyable atmosphere for everyone. I assure you that if you had notified the Front Desk concerning any of the issues you faced, it would have been dealt with promptly and courtiously . We are also in the middle of enhancements to the property which include new hallway lighting, carpeting, and an upgraded bedding package which will be very benefical to our resort. Thank you so much for you comments and concerns and we hope to see you at a later date.

“Perfectly nice hotel.”

I should learn to ignore the worst and best reviews when researching hotels on Trip Advisor. This is the second time in recent memory that I've checked into a hotel expecting a horror show, and found things to be perfectly fine. This time I was attending a major dance event held at the Crowne Plaza in Asheville. Over a 5 day period, the hotel hosted a large contingent of young, energetic dancers...no easy task, believe me. But through it all, staff remained courteous, service was good, and the rooms were nicely cleaned every day. Sure, it's an older property, with attendant deficits. The elevators are small (and slow during peak times), hallway noise is an issue (foam earplugs worked for me), and it is hard to find (even with a map). But overall the property seemed well maintained, the beds were super comfy (with lovely soft pillows), the rooms were spacious, and you have access to a large, modern health club a short walk away (with an indoor pool). We were happy with our stay, and would recommend this hotel.

“Nice hotel”

The hotel is undergoing renovations in some areas but overall everything was nice. The health club with indoor pool was a hit with my children. The breakfast buffet was well stocked and had plenty of selections. The room was a good size with comfortable beds. The location was very close to downtown Asheville.

The only bad thing was that the hallway noise was not blocked out by the room walls.
