“campers beware”

i ignored all the bad reviews and pulled in to bear creek for a two night stay. we were met by an older lady and shown to our site, this lady was very nice, after some confussion about our power needs we completed our setup and found that the CATV did not work at our site. we called the office and were told to hook our cable to the site beside ours, i informed them that my cable was not long enough and was told that they would bring me one. in a very short time a young man arrived with the cable and hooked us up on his own and everything worked great. great service i thought, the fun started the next morning when the older lady came knocking on our camper at 8:30am telling us that the owner had shown up and upon finding out they had let us borrow the cable " threw a fit" and demanded the go and get it from us. so much for your friendly campground owner. we decided to move on after all they are not the only game in town. the folks next to us saw all this take place and also decided to move to another campground. i was not looking for anything free and if i had been ask for a deposit on the cable i would have understood and agreed but i was treated in the beginning as i am use to being treated by campground owners, with common curticy and respect. the owner showed up and acted like a complete jerk and because of that i will stay there again nor will i recommend anyone to stay there.

“Do not stay here, unless you want to listen to traffic and deal with unprofessional owners”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2009

I am not sure how this place remains in business. I have stayed here for 3 months and have witnessed one of the rudest and most unprofessional business owners in action. Initially I felt that the owner was the sweetest lady, but it didn't last long. As soon as I had a problem her whole demeanor changed. I kept having internet disruptions. I am a business professional and the internet is essential for my day to day needs. When I first mentioned it to her, she said that they would fix it right away and to call her if I had anymore problems. So the next morning when I got disconnected and couldn't reconnect I called her. She responded by saying that it was "too bad for me" and that "internet was only included if it worked". I then told her that I did not have a problem purchasing a wireless card through my cell phone provider, but expected a reduction in my monthly rent (I had a short-term lease on one of their one bedroom furnished apts.), she went nuts. She started yelling and screaming saying that they would not reduce my rent and that if I didn't like it, I could move. I remained calm and told her that I would like to stay, that maybe they could send someone to my place to see if they could find out what the issue was. Their maintance man was standing with us and said that they needed to put in another antenna near my apt. The owner then got even more irrate and screamed that she wasn't going to pay to get it fixed. She then told me not to call her if I had any problems.

I was very startled by all of this and confused. I am not sure why she reacted so violently (emotionally). I have never been treated like this by a landlord or a business owner for that matter. But I have witnessed this over and over with the campers here as well. She has the if you don't like it, you can leave attitude. Instead of trying to please the customer.

The location isn't bad, in terms to it's vicinity to the Biltmore Estate, Arboretum, and West Asheville, but it is inbetween two highways, so all you hear is traffic day and night. Especially at night you can hear the tractor trailers traveling on the highways (airbrakes and horns). There is only about 4 feet inbetween sites and it is not scenic at all. Not sure why people would chose to stay here unless they are booking it without seeing it first. I have also wondered if there was a campground shortage in Asheville. Asheville is an absolutely scenic area and to stay here and not experience this beauty is a shame.

Also I wouldn't risk staying here and having a run-in with the owner. It could definately ruin your trip. I have seen it first hand.

“Extremely rude owner - Ruined our July 4th weekend trip”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 July 2009

Made reservations two months in advance for sites on their ridge with beautiful views. The actual sites were not guaranteed but they told us we would definitely be on sites on the ridge with the beautiful views. When we arrived, our sites were indeed occupied and owner said there were no other available sites on the ridge with the view even though we saw several vacant sites. We were given sites down in a hole next to interstate, with no view except apartment building and old storage building and pavement. Not exactly the mountain weekend we had in mind. When we expressed our unhappiness with the sites and told the owner this would be our first and last stay there, she then went into a mad rampage for well over 5 minutes (while we were saying nothing) and told us we should leave if we were that unhappy, really threatening to make us leave. Of course there was no where else to go on July 4th weekend. I have never seen an owner of any kind of business behave this way or talk to customers this way. We definitely will not camp here ever again and would not recommend to anyone!

“Weary travelers beware!”

We were traveling across the country from Utah, and had called this RV park a week in advance. We wanted to spend one month in Asheville because we were searching for a place to buy land. We inquired about their monthly rate and they gave us a somewhat reasonable price. We had been traveling all day and when we got there, the woman at the desk, who was also the owner told us she made a mistake and that the rate had changed to several hundreds of dollars more. Furthermore, she didn't want us to actually stay on the actual RV park but on her son's neighboring parking lot where he ran his electrical business. Very ugly! We have a brand new 39 foot motor home. She also said we would have to pay for our own electric bill as well. We were shocked. She told us to think about it, in other words, "take it or leave it". We said we would think it over for one night. Since we had to pull out of the RV resort to pull in to the neighboring parking lot, we suddenly got a revelation as we were pulling out. My husband looked at me and said "you want to just go?" and I said "heck yeah". That is the luxury of owning a motor home! I got the feeling that this women (owner) preys on the tired and weary. We just went to a different RV resort. Also, their web site add has a letter from trailer park magazine listing them as one of the top RV resorts in this country. The park is tight and not much to look at, I was surprised when we pulled in. I expected better from Trailer Park magazine!

“Convenient to Biltmore”

We stayed at Bear Creek for 3 nights and the people who run the campground were very friendly and helpful. It is conveniently located close to I -40 and as we were visiting Biltmore Estate is only one exit away. We weren't at the campground much during the day, but it was quiet at night and a nice place to stay.
