“An equivocal review”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

I'll begin this review with a quick list of pros and cons. That way, if you just want quick look, you won't have to read the whole review. I'll follow up with a bit more of an indepth review.

Pros:
1. Very convenient to the Biltmore House and the winery.
2. Beautiful lobby and library.
3. Lovely view.

Cons:
1. Merely adequate room.
2. Relatively unhelpful staff.
3. This in NOT an inn. It is a hotel.
4. Overpriced for value given.

In depth review:

My husband and I arrived on a Wednesday in the off-season (February). The hotel had few guests. When we checked in, the pleasant desk person welcomed us and then asked if we would like an upgrade.....at a cost. Since it was the off season they could offer us a room with a view for only $25 more. Hmmmm.........in our travels, the properties that impressed us the most were the ones that automatically upgraded guests when a property was obviously not nearly full. It costs them nothing more, but makes the guest feel privileged and more inclined to return. That was not the case here. We decided to upgrade, anyway. The desk staff person then "warned" us that the room had the best view but "a lot of grab bars" in the bathroom. OK. She wasn't kidding.

The room was adequate. Nothing more. It compared to most of the 3.5 - 4 star properties in which we've stayed over time. They generally cost a fraction of what this room commands. The view was nice, but from what we could tell, most of the rooms on that side of the hotel would have the same view.

We asked about dining and were given the run-down on the on site restaurants (3 at this time of year). Later we asked the concierge about off-site "local" restaurants. She whipped out a pre-printed sheet of a few restaurants and passed it to us without ever making eye contact. This is ASHVILLE! The restaurant scene is legendary! We ended up going to the pub on-site, Cedrics. It was nice, but not the "clubby pub" that we had hoped. It felt "new" in a plastic sort of way.....think Disneyland. The waitress and the host, however, were wonderful. I finally asked the waitress if she could recommend any place "funky and local" for breakfast. She immediately gave us recommendations. What a great gal. We took one of her reccs for breakfast - Early Girl. Excellent local/whole food breakfast. The waiter there recommended a few places for dinner. Now we were getting somewhere!
We ate at Salsa, a Caribe/Mex restaurant. Nothing fancy but great food and an excellent Mojito. The waiter was friendly and fun and actually told us about happenings in town.

We had earlier checked out the "formal" hotel restaurant. We ended up not going there because it is in the "basement" of the hotel. It is an English basement, but it just didn't have a good feel for an upscale restaurant. You should note that the "library" serves light dinners and it has a MUCH nicer feel. There was a pianist playing wonderful music while we were there. Additionally, there is a very nice large fireplace with cozy chairs and the view is wonderful. The bar is tiny and not a place you'd want to settle in with a brandy. Take it in the library.

In short, I would not return to this property. My husband has stayed in some of the local B&B's and they would be a much better value. The ONLY reason to stay here is for the convenience of being able to take the hotel shuttle to the Biltmore House and to be able to walk to the winery. No..... Wait...... That's not the only reason. The other reason would be to be able to say "I stayed at THE Inn". If you're willing to pay a premium for that, then the Inn is the place for you.

“Not sure the Inn on Biltmore Estate can be beat.....”

This is the second time my family and I have stayed at the Inn on Biltmore Estate. It is truly a wonderful place to stay! We have stayed in the off season twice and the prices are quite reasonable. We became passholders for savings, as it really helped in discounting day after day while we stayed for five nights. We were sent coupons in Jan. and was able to save on merchandise, meals, etc... on a daily basis. The savings really added up and was well worth the passholder purchase.

First of all, the staff is very gracious and quite accommodating. Staff opens Inn doors and car doors for you, etc.... Also, they are constantly cleaning, both in the lobby and room areas. Cleanliness is a big plus for me. Everything is quite lovely and more upscale in the Inn's decor, especially for the price. Your room is left with fresh water bottles and ice with glasses and mugs daily. You have monogrammed robes to wear during your stay and they give you free monogrammed slippers. They clean your room once a day and come back every evening for turn down service to turn down your covers and remove the comforter for the night. They also leave chocolate on the pillows during the turn down service. They offer free shuttle service every 30 minutes in the day for Inn guests. The drivers of the shuttles are great and inform you of facts as you ride throughout the beautiful estate. They also offer shuttle service in the evening/night every 15 minutes to Antler Hill Village.

Not only is the Inn a great place, it is located in a beautiful, quiet, setting. If you are looking for a quiet, gorgeous setting, this would be a great place to vacation. I would highly recommend staying at the Inn on Biltmore Estate if I were going to the Asheville area. I do not think you will be disappointed, at all!

Room Tip: The mountain views cost an additional $50.00 per night, but it really isn't necessary. Every vie...

“Through The Gates to a Bit of Paradise!”

What a wonderful place to relax and rejuvenate your soul! The Inn is 1st class in accommodations, comfort and service - it's warm without being formal and pretentious! Driving through the gates onto the Biltmore property, you're in for a treat! Shuttle service on the estate makes it possible to visit The Bistro, DeerPark, the Winery and the Village all of which provide dining and entertainment options. The staff we've encountered there on each trip (many years now) have all been proud to be part of the Biltmore company and most seem to delight in sharing the grand history of this treasure! The Inn offers a comfortable anchor while you explore the estate and marvel at the stewardship that has taken place with this historic gem! What a place!!

Room Tip: upper floors, close to the elevators

“Inn at Biltmore”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

We spent two nights there earlier this month. The accommodations and staff are outstanding. Everyone was extremely helpful and friendly. The Bed and Breakfast package included Biltmore admission, audio tour headphones, a souvenir book and breakfasts. We spent several hours touring the house and took the Friends and Family tour which took us to some of the upstairs back bedrooms and gave us a good feeling for the guests that the Vanderbilts entertained at Biltmore. It was still too early for the garden to be in bloom, but the green houses and conservatory were open and there was an outstanding orchid display.
At the base of the Inn is the Deer Park Village - some shops, winery and store. We saw a touring exhibit of Tiffany lamps. They were beautiful and it was a unique opportunity to see so many Tiffany lamps in one spot.
We had dinner at the Inn dining room one night and the food and service were excellent. The next night we ate in the Library room, choosing some appetizers and salads for a lighter meal.
All in all we felt pampered and taken care of as if we were some of the wealthy family or friends of the Vanderbilts. I would definitely recommend the Inn for a relaxing, enjoyable time.

Room Tip: They do have some rooms with balconies.

“Lovely”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

My husband, mother and I spent a weekend at the Inn on Biltmore Estate in January. Having stayed at the Grove Park Inn previously, we were looking forward to a new experience in Asheville. The Inn on Biltmore is a lovely hotel with a more peaceful vibe than the Grove Park. It feels more intimate and updated, and I think there were fewer children than we experienced at the Grove Park. The room we stayed in was generous in size and had a lovely view of the mountains. The bathroom was very well appointed and clean. My mother's room was equally nice. One slightly negative thing that we all noticed was that the TV had very few channels, and the volume was quite loud each time you turned it on. We ate in the Library for dinner and the larger restaurant on the lower floor for breakfast. Both were very nice, with excellent service and food. Being able to use the Inn's shuttle to get around the Biltmore property is a huge perk, which I feel is worth quite a bit in terms of convenience and reduced wear and tear on you. The weekend we were there was rainy and cool, and it was especially appreciated. My husband and I went to the spa (he for a massage and me for a facial). He was quite happy with his massage. I was not very satisfied with my facial (so superficial that I didn't have a "glow" for even 5 minutes after I left the spa). I would return to the Inn on Biltmore, but I would not return to the spa for a facial. All of the personnel that we encountered at the Inn were well trained and went out of their way to accommodate us. One final thing: One night that we were in Asheville, we ate at Frankie Bones and enjoyed it very much. If you decide to leave the property to eat, I would recommend this restaurant.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor, facing the mountains.
