“Much nicer than expected”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2011

person found this review helpful

My recent stay at the SpringHill Suites in Asheville was a surprise. I expected minimal service and amenities but got much more. The people working there were very customer service oriented. I especially enjoyed one of the staff members who served breakfast. Front desk staff were also very nice. My room was spacious, clean and things were new. I used the very nice exercise room which overlooked a swimming pool. Great equipment. The area around this hotel is pretty commercial with the Asheville Mall across the street. But, downtown is a few minutes away. If you don't care about being in the heart of the city, this is a good choice.

“Great staff and lovely rooms”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 December 2011

I was travelling with my handicapped mother. The whole staff couldn't have been nicer, especially Pat, who is a GEM, in at breakfast. They were kind and considerate and helpful.
The suites were great, roomy, clean, and well equipped.

Room Tip: When stayed half way down the hall, quiter away from the ice machine and elevator.

“Nice But Noisy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 December 2011

This is a well located property close to everything in Asheville and easy to get to, yet far enough off the main roads to be peaceful, relaxing and quiet...UNLESS there are other people in the rooms above and beside you! A tour bus of older folks arrived when we did. We didn't see any small children or teens at the hotel, so who would have thought we would be jarred, actually startled, by what sounded like explosions several times during the night. They were pieces of luggage or furniture being moved, maybe dropped, above and beside us. We were awakened several times with doors closing. The walls must have been made of paper. Oh yes, the vent fan in the bathroom sounded like a plane taking off; we didn't use it after the opening roar. The room was great, clean, well appointed. The bed was wonderful. A Carrabbas was next door; great for dinner. The desk staff was friendly and gave us the exact location and time of room we requested. The breakfast, except for the "plastic scrambled eggs" was good, with the hostess, I think her name was Charlotte, being the best we've encountered. This place would easily rated an ""excellent" from me... but then there was the noise!

Room Tip: First floor is noisy.

Dear PGinKB,

Thank you for posting a review of your recent stay. I would like to apologize for the noise issue you encountered while staying with us. While we try to keep noise levels to a minimum sometimes people forget there are other people staying in the hotel. I am happy to hear that you enjoyed the rest of your stay and I hope that you will give us another try when in the area again.

“Very Functional - LOVE the hottub!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2011

Watch carefully or you will miss the sign for this hotel that is perched on top of a hill (with several others) for nice sunset views. The decor is....odd, but very cheerful. Our suite made us wish that we were spending more time there to enjoy the living room, TWO TV's, kitchen, etc. (that's a standard room!) The 2 double bedroom area was a bit cramped. We had to scoot past each other to get to the closet or bathroom. Very few drawers for unpacking clothes, but a big closet with shelves.

The heated indoor pool and whirlpool tub were SO welcome after all the driving we had done this weekend! And it wasn't a wimpy "spa tub" - it had JETS! Best feature of the hotel, in my opinion!

Breakfast was well stocked and supervised by an attendant who was happy to help people use the waffle maker. There were the usual coffees, juices, cereals, breads, muffins, fruits, also waffles, sausage, egg, and -unusual - a crockpot of oatmeal with raisins, nuts and brown sugar available to season (guess what I had?) The couches in the lobby area, a shady table area, and a very sunny conference room area were available for seating the many breakfasters. There was an AARP conference going on, so the hotel was packed, but we had no problems - even found a parking spot.

There were plenty of shops and restaurants near by - even a tempting Carrabas in the parking lot - but we were headed downtown, and that is only a mile or so away.

This is more than I would normally spend on a hotel to "crash" in, but I had a gift card. The quality is definitely there and if you book at least 3 weeks(?) out, the rates seem better. It's a room you could spend some time in.

Room Tip: All are suites with sofabeds. Pick a front room for a great sunset and a back room for a great sunr...
