“Spectacular view, not-so-great customer service”

We pulled into Campfire Lodgings at 7pm on an August summer night to find the office closed. We had not called ahead to make reservations because we were driving about 8hrs from the Outer Banks and weren't sure we were going to make it to Asheville as planned. Because we were tent camping and all of the tent sites were empty, we decided to set up camp, leave a phone message at the office indicating which site we were on, and just pay in the morning. I have to say that they seemed upset in the morning that we had done this. Personally I was a bit surprised that the office was closed by 7 in high season.
Aside from that, the views are everything that is promised - especially at 6am when the kids got up! The best spots are reserved for RVs which was disappointing for us, but understandable since this RVs represent most of the clientele. We got to stay in a lovely wooded sight with the bears (We luckily didn't spot any but one was seen just before our arrival on the site).

What a amazing campground !! Super Management and Very Helpful , Our site had a beautiful view central to everything in the Park. The Restrooms were super clean w/ abundant Hot water. which was great considering how cool it got during the nights in November. Can't wait to plan out next trip to Asheville.. Will be booking future reservations here ! Thanks for the Great Experience !

“Psyco rude owner/manager”

Beautiful campground but the rudest manager (she may be the owner?) we have ever met. We were going up the steep little road to the entrance when we were stopped by a woman in a Dodge Ram truck. She looked at me and said in a disgusted voice, "May I Help You?". Not knowing who in the heck this woman was, I told her I was just headed to the campground. She rolled her eyes and said, "THIS IS THE CAMPGROUND! - DO YOU HAVE RESERVATIONS?". I said no and she replied "WELL WE'RE FULL". There was a moment of silence as my wife and I sat there stunned and I said OK, we'll turn around. She said nothing and just drove off. We went on up to the campground entrance, turned around and left. We were so shocked by the rudeness, we both sat in silence except for the occasional "WHAT A WITCH!" we would each exclaim from time to time. I've been camping for many years and never ran across anyone that rude. WE WILL NEVER GO BACK.

“Wonderful Campsite”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2011

This campsite D9 was very comfortable, beautiful and quiet. We did not have a bad experience with management and found the campsite host and hostess were friendly and helpful. We arrived after hours to a well organized packet explaining rules and regs and a map to the site. Thank you for a great camping experience and we will be back the next time we visit the Asheville area!

“Best Campsite in the Asheville area”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2011

This was my second stay at the camp site. Most times, the sequel doesnt live up to the original, however, this place does. The site is super clean, the views are spectacular. Andee and the staff are extremely helpful. I dont know what happened with the previous reviewer, however, Andee accomodates . Rv's arent stacked on top of each other, plenty of space to provide an intimate atmosphere, with a viewing area for those not able to stay in a premium space with a view of the mountains.
Its very dog friendly with trails to walk your dog. Even the laundry facilities are good, nice large washers, and I mean, how often do you find dryers that dry totally on one cycle! Minutes from Asheville, Mitchell loves this place! Thanks for everything Andee, we will be back soon.
