“Owners are "The Chosen Ones" - ha”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

As an Asheville local, I was so shocked when this place said they did not "rent to locals"!
I had hurt my back pretty bad, and couldn't stay in my house. I looked around for a hotel to stay for a week, and have some family come and help take me to the doctor nearby. The management makes sure to ask you very detailed questions about your life, trying to determine if we are "undesirables" I guess. It took alot of "begging" basically, before they would rent for me, and only because I had other family coming to stay too.
So, they rent me a room, and my mother a room. We stayed there for almost two weeks, which is alot of money, for two rooms. Well, after two weeks, my mother had to return to her home, and guess what? They said I had to leave too, even still suffering mildly from back injury. I couldn't believe it! We had spent alot of money there, kept our rooms clean, and not made any noise at all the whole time. The management just stated I wasnt allowed to stay longer??? WTF??? These owners and management think their hotel is a palace or something, and in my opinion, will only rent to you if you are old, rich, and just like them. It's weird. I've never had such a bad treatment from a business after spending so much money with them. I think these owners are very biased, do not need the money, and in most cases in Asheville, are probably already rich, and this hotel is just something for them to do. I will never recommend this place to anyone. Worst treatment I ever received from any hotel in the country, and I used to travel alot! The worst thing is, its not even that nice of a place, and they act so pretentious about it! The breakfast is a joke, the pool has sharp holes all in the bottom, and the housekeepers do not clean all that thoroughly (which are all illegal immigrants anyway.)

“Well priced, immaculate, convenient”

We owned a vacation home very near to the hotel and stayed there several times during renovations. We also had visiting friends stay there. We found the front desk to be extremely helpful, the room immaculate and the location convenient. Some tips: You are less than 15 minutes to downtown with over 45 locally owned, fabulous chef-owned restaurants. Don't miss the drumming downtown in the Summer at Pritchard Park on Friday nites, a real spectacle if you haven't seen it. You are also under 15 minutes to the Grove Park Inn, a historic spot and lovely place to have lunch on the terrace with lovely mountain views (or an evening glass of wine). Holiday time is lovely with carolers and two enormous fireplaces. If you're a member of the YMCA, the neighborhood Y is just south of the hotel for work-outs. Beaver Lake is also south of the hotel for a lovely shaded walk. Park at the Bird Sanctuary just south of the lake. North of the hotel is a great little find, Stoneyknob Cafe. Great breakfasts on weekends. We love the area and if you spend a little time to investigate, there's a lot to enjoy in the area!

Room Tip: I would suggest that you ask for a quiet room, away from the road. For security purposes I would ask...

“Above average, very clean, but upgrade the lighting, please!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 October 2011

We recently spent six nights at the Days Inn (north) Asheville/Woodfin. Medium priced chain hotels are practically non-existent north of Asheville, and, outside of some cabin lodgings and B&Bs, this Days Inn was our only choice for a place to stay. I agree with an earlier reviewer that Days Inns have become "hit or miss" when it comes to quality, and for that reason they are not at the top our list for stays - especially six night stays! However, we really needed to stay close to Weaverville this trip and wanted a hotel setting. Most of the reviews on TA were favorable, so we gave it a shot.

This Days Inn was above average in many ways. The room we had (the upgraded "mini-suite" with two queen beds and small refrigerator and microwave) was spacious enough for a small table and chairs and a tiny loveseat/"sofabed-let" and coffee table, besides the dresser/TV stand and desk. We were on the first level near the pool, and easy access to the car was appreciated since we had to cart several things with us each day (this was a "working" vacation, so to speak). The beds were very comfortable, the linens adequate, and the AC worked great. No complaints about these things.

Wi-fi was extremely peppy and we never dropped a signal, accessing a notebook, netbook and two iPads during our stay. The only thing that would improve the room (for this price point - this is not a luxury hotel, and one is not paying an outrageous price to stay there!) is better lighting and more electrical outlets, especially ones that you don't need to move furniture to access. The motel is older, built long before electronical access for mulitple devices was the norm, so it's understandable. But the lighting was the worst. We ended up carefully removing lamp shades so that we could see after dark (and we're not so old that the eyesight is that bad - yet :-) ). The area where the closet and unit for the refrigerator and microwave was, back in a corner alcove, had NO lighting, and there was no outlet for the coffeemaker. The counter over the refrigerator is a logical space for the coffeemaker, since the microwave is above the counter on its own shelf, but it's useless to move it there without a place to plug it in! We usually travel with a power strip but forgot to pack it, so we picked up a cheap one at Walmart in our travels. If they supplied them at the front desk with a small deposit required, we would have sprung for it! :-)

Because the Days Inn is totally non-smoking inside the rooms and lobby we were worried at first that the pool area with tables, chairs and those cigarette pole disposals might become a place that smokers congregate on mild evenings, resulting in noise or odors outside our door (and maybe seeping in under the door). This was NOT the case - even though there were people outside smoking and conversing, we could not hear them or smell smoke from inside our room. Greatly appreciated!

Although we had no trouble locating the Days Inn (we're familiar with the area and knew how to get to it), it might be useful to have a bigger or a tastefully lit sign at the bottom of Reynolds Mountain Blvd. It must be frustrating to see the hotel from the interstate, get off the exit and try to figure out how to get to the Days Inn which is up on a hill, sort of tucked away and not totally visible from down below. Again - another slight improvement, but not a reason to avoid staying there, of course.

Another reviewer mentioned that the charge for his entire stay was printed on the bill he received at check in. We received the same thing - the price charged to our credit card for six nights at check in. Fortunately, we anticipated staying for the entire period and this was not a big deal, but I wonder if this becomes an issue if one need to check out early for some reason? We've stayed at resorts and hotels that require pre-payment (usually during busy seasons in popular vacation spots) but cannot recall having the hotel stay for this level and style of lodging being fully charged at the time of check in.

All in all, this Days Inn appears to be operated in an efficient manner by innkeepers who care about their business. It definitely benefits by being the only lodging of its genre in the area (no competition nearby), but does have some "unique" ways of doing business, like charging your credit card up front. Other reviewers' experiences when attempting to stay there (turned away because they lived within 50 miles of the hotel - even though they reported having legitimate and legal reasons to need a room!) didn't affect us so we have no idea how rigidly the management applies these policies or if they are applied consistently.

Our stay was pleasant enough and we believe we got what we paid for. Definitely will remember to pack a power strip and maybe toss an extra desk lamp in the car if we stay there again. Once we move to the Weaverville area (our vacation/soon-to-be retirement home is under construction) it will become a moot point - we won't need to stay in a hotel, and perhaps they wouldn't allow us to stay even if we *had* the need to do so, since we will live nearby! :-)

Room Tip: Request a first level room if you want excellent access to your car. All doors open outside (second...

“A Notch Above Average”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2011

Over the years, I found Days Inns to be a “Crap Shoot”. Some are OK, while others are disgusting. I usually don’t bother with them anymore because I don’t want to take the chance..

However, the company I visited in NC sent me to the Days Inn / Ashville North for a two night stay.

The hotel is situated on a hill off the Interstate. Nice looking on the outside. and clean looking on the inside. Staff is extremely friendly. My credit card was charged for the full amount of stay, and I was given my final receipt at check in.

All rooms have outside entrances. Rooms have small flat screen TV’s with about 80 channels. Bedding is clean, crisp, & fresh, and my socks were still white after walking on the carpet. Mattress was firm. Work area is small with only one outlet. Free Internet is fast & reliable. Water pressure good in shower.

Breakfast was the basic Continental with biscuits & gravy.

I’d rate this Hotel a notch above Average.

“Extremely clean, well maintained, friendly service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 April 2011

I picked this place based on previous reviews and its own rating as a Days Inn award winner for several years. It was exceptionally clean, well maintained with no need for even some touchup or minor repair, and the staff was very friendly. It is about 10 minutes from downtown Asheville, and you have your choice of taking the highway or the four lane avenue to get there. There are ample sitdown restaurant and grocery options nearby. There is no computer for guest use, but the Asheville public library branch about five minutes away has computers available and charges a dollar for an hour of computer time. I will definitely stay here again.
