Stayed here on Sun. nite, Aug. 1, while moving cross-country from AZ to FL. This place was an absolute dump. I reserved through the LaQuinta website for an accessible, non-smoking room at the AAA rate. My first impression was a good one--the lobby was clean & the receptionist very warm & friendly. The hotel was at least 85% empty when we arrived about 9:30 p.m. Our room was in the back 40 which was ok because we were able to back up our 22' Penske truck towards a shed so we wouldn't have to worry about getting ripped off during the night. When we entered the room, the lights were all on, the bed not made, & the pillows were all piled up on the bed like someone was still watching TV & had just stepped out. Breakfast leftovers were still on the desk. I called the front desk & the girl immediately came to our room (#150). She was very apologetic & had 2 new room keys in one hand & a spray bottle in the other hand. We went to the room next door (#152), a SMOKING accessible room. It stunk to high heaven & there were stains all over the carpet. When I inquired about getting another non-smoking room, she replied that this was the only other room available at the rate I had booked. I was shocked that we weren't automatically offered another non-smoking room regardless of the rate we had booked at since Housekeeping quite obviously was at fault here. I thought this was really poor Customer Service, especially when, mind you, the place was about 85% EMPTY!! She sprayed the A/C & the entire room with the bottle, but it still reeked. I wasn't into an argument because we were both exhausted from the day's drive from Fort Stockton, TX, where we had stayed the night before at a really nice clean LaQuinta Inn. After she left, we found some big bee-like bug crawling under the edge of the bed on the floor, so we killed it. Then we found dead big bugs all along the edges of the floor around the entire room & even on the floor of the shower stall. I don't know if they were roaches or just bugs indigenous to Texas--all I know is I've NEVER stayed in such a filthy room in all my years of traveling, for business or for pleasure, both in the U.S. and in foreign countries. We didn't see any bedbugs on the sheets or pillows & we didn't go looking for any either--I don't think we had any because we didn't have any bites the next morning. We both slept with one eye open & passed on breakfast the next morning. All we wanted to do was get out of there ASAP, & believe me we hit the ground running when we woke up. Oh, but before we left, the toilet clogged, so we left a nice mess for whoever may have "cleaned" the room upon our departure. When I got my survey to fill out from LaQuinta, it read pretty much like this review. The manager called me a couple of days later & was very apologetic & wanted to "make things better" by giving me some extra points or some such nonsense on my LaQuinta card. He was really concerned about the bug situation. In hind-sight, I think they must have had an exterminator come in and that's why dead bugs were everywhere, but you'd think they would have at least ran a vacuum cleaner as a follow-up to the spraying. I didn't waste my time returning the manager's call. In my opinion, he was a poor manager for quite obviously not checking up on their lousy housekeeping practices & for not having a plan in place to accommodate guests when their rooms were screwed up. I also can't believe AAA even has an affiliation with this hotel. I'm not making any of this up, and I have NEVER written such a terrible review on anything in my entire life! I wish now that I had taken some pix on my cell phone, but at the time the thought didn't even cross my mind.
