“Always Pleasant - Quiet and Serene”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 May 2011

Always stay at Adobe Pines B&B when I travel to Los Alamos. I've stayed there at least a dozen times over the last 6 - 8 years.

It is a beautiful adobe house located off the end of a cul-de-sac in a very up scale neighborhood, away from the hotels and fuss of the National Laboratory complex. The house is beautiful and located on the edge of one of the bluffs that define Los Alamos. The rooms are nice and you have a private bath in each. When you get to know the place, you know which rooms have views, balconies, etc. The house is very comfortable and it seems like you're in your own very extremely large Adobe house.

The breakfast is superior; nicely done, and always prepared by 6:30 AM. Guests can quietly eat in a large kitchen area or use the formal dining room. The owners are very nice and always have something interesting to discuss about Los Alamos history, if you care to talk.

I always recommend that colleagues who are visiting Los Alamos stay at Adobe Pines, but may be poisoning my own well, since I don't want it to be so popular that I can't get a room there.

Room Tip: Call them and ask for one of the view rooms.

“Cozy, friendly place to stay in a beautiful location!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2011

We stayed in the inn while on a business trip. It's in a beautiful spot, with a great view of Los Alamos. The main house's windows have an amazing outlook on the valley. The owner is very friendly, quickly took care of everything. The b&b is very well kept, clean, fresh, felt very nicely homey on cold days. They serve great breakfast, with fresh berries or other fruits. There's a variety of cereals, eggs, different kinds of breads. Coffee, tea, juices etc.

It's on a pretty, quiet street... great place to relax. Definitely recommend adobe pines to any chain-type place. Great value. This is the way to stay in LA.

“Not what I expected”

Thought I'd spend a couple of extra days in the area just to relax after attending a conference in Santa Fe. Booked a room with a jacuzzi tub that looked nice in the online pictures. I called the day that I would be checking in, to be sure that a slightly later check-in would be okay (I was going to be an hour late). The person that answered seemed surprised that I had called, but then confirmed that it was indeed Adobe Pines, and that I was expected. Was told that I had been "upgraded" to another building on the property, and I said that was okay, and thanked him. The place is in a weird location up in a housing development. Was hard to find in the dark. I found my key in an envelope at the front door, and opened the room (a cabin "outbuilding"). As a woman travelling alone, the place creeped me out. It was old-ish (in a run down kind of way), and did not have the pleasant amenities of the original room I had reserved. If this was an "upgrade," I had serious doubts about the original room. Curtains were see-through (no privacy), linens were old and frayed, furniture was run down and mismatched, the bathtub was yellow with age and had stains (no jacuzzi), it didn't feel clean, and I frankly didn't feel safe. It kind of felt like I had just checked in to the living quarters of a single male caretaker or something. It also felt like a bait-and-switch, since this was nowhere near as nice as what I had expected. The magnet on the old refrigerator that had an emergency number for a funeral home was the last straw, given the creepy vibe I already had about the place. I called the main number, and said that I wouldn't be staying. The man asked why, stating that other folks had thought it was a "real nice room." I didn't want to get into it, and politely and simply said that it wasn't what I expected, nor what I had reserved. He very bluntly asked me to leave the key in the room, and "bye." No apologies, no offers to make it better, or give me the room I had originally reserved. Fortunately I found a vacancy at the Hampton Inn, which has been quite pleasant so far!

“Nice quite low key place.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 March 2009

We stayed here while in town for a wedding in the ‘East’. The room was very clean and the staff was very nice and friendly. The location was a bit odd being in a housing subdivision and right next to a middle school but it was generally quiet and felt more low key and much more relaxed then staying in a hotel. There is a swimming pool and it makes a nice sitting area for breakfast but guests cannot use it because of ‘insurance problems’.
The location is a bit out of the way for going anywhere, there is not anything really within walking distance so be prepared to drive a little ways for meals and entertainment. The traveling distance is in part the location of the inn but mostly it is the geography of Los Alamos that makes things physically close together a long way to drive to. It is sometimes frustrating to people that have never been to Los Alamos to be able to stand on one mesa and almost able to throw something across the canyon to where you want to go, but have to drive 2 miles to get there.
My only real disappointment was that the room we were in had a Jacuzzi tub but the owners of the property asked that it not be used in order to conserve water. I completely understand their request given the drought cycle that is hitting the state and the need to protect water recourses; I just wish they made a note of that on their web site as it would have influenced which room we reserved!
All in all it was a very nice long weekend in a very beautiful location. I don’t normally purchase lodging in Las Alamos and this is actually the first time I have not stayed with family while visiting here, but if we ever did have to get a room here again we will definitely come back here!
