“Virginian was just the ticket. when traveling with the wife and dog”

We had planned to stay at another motel upon arrival at Moab for a 4 days stay to photograph the area. The other motel just did not fit the bill so while I was sitting outside I hit the garmin and checked out other centrally located hotels. This one sounded interesting so I called and we headed over to take a look. We where greeted with a big smile and given a key to check out the room. The room is fairy spacious, clean and had a kitchenette and 2 queen beds, new Ac/heater and was very comfortable. If traveling with a dog and like to do your own cooking this is a good place to stay. The motel is back off the main drag, behind the Moab Diner (my favorite Moab food joint). The motel backs up to the Moab river park and only 2 blocks away is a bark park.. This place has a very comfortable feel to it and will stay here again our next trip out this way. the winter rate was 39.00 and 10.00 for the dog a very reasonable price.

“Exactly what was needed”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 October 2011

Arrived in Moab late one night and had to call the motel for directions - desk clerk was very helpful and I was checking in within minutes. My room was in the rear block of the Motel, furthest away from Moab's bustling and light-riddled main street. Though I was on the bottom floor I didn't notice a great deal of noise from upstairs. The room itself was clean and had everything I expected - TV, coffee maker, fridge and microwave. Maid service was very efficient. Breakfast wasn't included in the price but there's no shortage of places to eat in Moab - being a Brit I especially enjoyed the food and 'all American diner' atmosphere in the Moab Diner, about 30 seconds walk from the Motel.

Room Tip: If you want a quieter night, try to get a top floor room at the rear of the hotel, further away from...

“Quiet, clean and very reasonable.”

Moab teems with young sporty active types who need to have a base from which to do all their biking, hiking and zipping through the desert on something zippy. But even less active types require a clean, quiet pied-a-terre and if it comes with a kitchenette - so much the better.
The cleaning team were just as approachable and helpful and a credit to her. Fresh laundry daily and coffee makings topped up. Cooking in our room was easy with the supplied kitchen kit and we knocked out chicken, tuna and steak on three different nights. Shops (and liquor store) aren't far away and the Moab Adventure Centre is right next door.
Carol the owner, seemed like she'd suffered endless summers of muddy smelly guests who had abused her hospitality and trashed her rooms. And she bore it all with quiet fortitude. She was kind to us, patient with my changes of heart and room, even amused at my eccentric Englishness. Carol - if you're reading this - remember to stay balanced!

Room Tip: All rooms are quiet and have a balcony. Upstairs might be cooler on warm evenings.

“Better Choices”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2011

It's dark and the snow is blowing horizontal and the only vacancy you can spot in Moab is the Virginian. OK, take it. But if you can plan ahead, the Big Horn nearby is a much better choice. We moved to the Big Horn at the same rate and found it much better value. We stayed at the Virginian in 2010 in the new building which was pretty OK. This year(Sep 2011) I was offered the older original building which featured a kitchenette. Seemed like a good idea but in fact the place was a bit run down and just didn't "feel" clean. The kitchen was inadequately stocked and my wife sez "unaceptable". Proprietor was not particularly welcoming or attentive. Answered the phone while checking me out and took about 3-5 min to end what was actually a solicitation call. Beds comfortable and the place is quiet.

Room Tip: forget the older units with kitchenette. new building is OK

“A very decent place to stay...”

My husband and I have stayed here on and off for 25 years before we go on our annual canoe trip down the Green or the Colorado, and afterwards. It is an old place but always clean. We like it because of the kitchenettes as we often have food we want to keep frozen before we get on the river. Prices have always been very reasonable especially since a lot of the chains have come in. You can walk to any eating place in town that you would want to go as well as one of the best bookstores, Back of Beyond. City Market is only a few blocks away if you need groceries, etc.
